The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

There was silcon/rubber tip extension you could just zipp tie onto the tip , used them years ago . Don't know if they are still available. I think someone else used a piece of Alunium tube that fit over and cut a slit up the side and used a clamp to tigthen it onto the Cannister tip. I believe...

IMAC PAU Extra Build 105" assembly

Just got some longer bolts 55m M5 will do the trick for 26x12 but the 27x12 is another 3.5 mm thicker than the 26x12 prop . Thanks for the suggestion Snoopy1 , i have a drill press but i rather leave the hub diameter at 5mm and use longer 55mm bolts . If i have to i will get 60mm bolts 5M bolts...

IMAC PAU Extra Build 105" assembly

Just got off the phine withDA service and they said the weight will really on effect the quickness of the spool up of the engine . My guess it will take a little longer to slow down when the throttle is back . I'm have an issue with the thickness of the Biela propellors, the 26x12 protudes...

IMAC PAU Extra Build 105" assembly

Larry Are you building it from plans of the Edge V3 540 40% or just free styling the design . I hope you have a large trailer because at 40% the airframe will be around 120" long . Your going to need at least a 170cc engine for thrust .

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

I do agree with math . I just might go and buy about four to five strips of lead weight and add it the nose of my new Extra . I'm thinking if it 6.3 oz at the crankshaft then it will be a least eight or more ounces at the front of the firewall to get the same leverage as the nose weight .

IMAC PAU Extra Build 105" assembly

These aircraft are really amazing and i love the different schemes they come up with every year . What size are you building 35% or larger :too-cool:, these air races compete at LasVegas of least they did the last couple of years flying the course over the speedway in Vegas.

IMAC PAU Extra Build 105" assembly

That's a sharp looking aircraft :too-cool: There is a pilot Pete McLeod who races in the RedBull air races with the Edge . I saw him fly at the Abbotsford, BC air show (2012) with the Red Bull Livery on his plane and it was stunning to see that plane fly to the edge of the flight envelope and...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

I'm going to ues a Whiterose nose weight for balancing my CG . I guess even using a three bladed prop puts alot more load on the bearings but that nose weight will increase load . I guess if the bearings are feeling rough i'll send back to DA for new bearings With my 3DHS 87" extra i had to...

IMAC PAU Extra Build 105" assembly

My father enjoyed the building and fixing maybe even more than flying . Decades ago i was all about the flying and didn't enjoy the building as much . Its odd, as we get older our priorities can from our youth :) I really do like that REDBULL scheme on your aircraft .

IMAC PAU Extra Build 105" assembly

Beveled ends with the enclosed socket is great to prevent any flutter :big-grin:. A fellow racer from years ago who lived in Montana built his F1 racing aircraft with an enclosed pocket for the hinge line , very time consuming with excellent results. We used to build the tail sections with a...

IMAC PAU Extra Build 105" assembly

Thanks Larry for the info about your Edge , I do love that color scheme of that Redbull on your aircraft . I guess if i moved the rudder servo 73g/2.6 oz forward 36" this would help with the balancing . The PAU hardware with the kit i found to have play in the bushing that seats in the housing...

IMAC Double Build, Carden Pro 124" Extra 300 40%

Good point you have mentioned this before .:too-cool: The Lycoming engines have vertical fins as seen in Redbull video, like you said which cools off the hottest part near the head . I guess we should have seperate ducts to prodvide cool to the top of the engines. I haven't seen anyone do...

IMAC Double Build, Carden Pro 124" Extra 300 40%

Great video of your iMac flying the Intermediate sequence , that ZDZ really does pull with the three bladed falcon prop RE3 pipes. You have a beautiful field and your son did a good job video taping your flight .:too-cool:

IMAC Double Build, Carden Pro 124" Extra 300 40%

I have notice is some guys just put a horizontal baffle along the cylinders and don't redirect the air over the cylinders to force the air down over the case . Agree, nothing new about full size air cooled engines beening baffled not everyone baffle RC engines the same . Orthobird has a fiber...

IMAC Double Build, Carden Pro 124" Extra 300 40%

This is very similar to how the REDBULL air raceers cool their Lycoming engines you should look it up . Thats why i placed the rear fence up on the firewall and rear baffles around the back of the engine to cool the engine . Your Bang on Cam
