Scale Balsa USA 1/3 Scale Super Cub Kit " NIB "

I decided to figure out how much of the flap was in the way, and I built a jig for them and then took them out to the band saw and cut those puppies down. Haha! I used some spare sheeting that I had to put over the cut. Now they can still be hinged at the top of the wing and have full travel...

So something I've been thinking about for a while is that I built the flaps and ailerons per the plans and didn't create the airfoil shaped surfaces. This created a problem because the flaps were unable to drop as much as they needed or as much as the full scale. Instead of going back and...

After some thought and the possibility that access to the fuel tanks in the forward compartment might be really difficult, I think I'm still going with twin tanks, but I think I'm going to move them back under the floor of the cabin. The carb is going to be on the bottom and the fuel line will...

So I decided to use twin 500ml Fiji bottle fuel tanks and they have to be able to be placed in and out of the forward fuselage using the hatch which works fine. Another note, all these components will be screwed in from the bottom with 4-40 bolts and blind nuts so that I can always have access...

Next I cut the hatch in the bottom of the fuselage and glued in supports and plywood for the blind nuts. The hatch is soft balsa so I'll probably put a thin layer of fiberglass on both ends to keep it protected and maintain its shape.

The next step was to mount the throttle servo using a spare servo I had lying around and a piece of wire to substitute for the final rod assembly to give me an idea of where to put it.

After setting the engine I marked and drilled the holes through the firewall for the throttle rod, fuel line, and ignition cables. Once these were drilled I used a piece of sandpaper wrapped on a wooden dowel to sand the edges and hopefully prevent some wear down the line.

Today was an important day in the birth of an airplane. I mounted the engine... Well, I pre-mounted it... I have to paint the firewall before mounting it permanently, but getting it mounted up set a chain of events. In front of the instrument panel there's a piece of wood that's glued...

The floats look great! Now you've got me thinking about it. Haha! Yea, the EME 70 was the biggest twin I could buy without the plugs sticking out... and that's one reason I chose it. I have an EME 120 on my Yak 55 and it runs great, so I'm definitely a fan of those engines as well, but I...

Yea, it'd be great to see the photos of the floats. for sure! This thing is definitely going to be a beast with the big wheels and everything. I have a EME 70 Twin for it. That should be enough power. What's in yours? I did add wing tubes. So for right now the holes in the ribs are...

That looks fantastic! Really beautiful! I started to order the floats this one, but it is quite a build. Haha. I might get them down the road, but not right away.

So here's an update of the build to date a few photos. I'm so close, yet so far it seems like. Haha! I have a lot of detail work to do. Also, while I was rolling this thing around I can see already the vertical fin needs to be reinforced and maybe the horizontal stab too. I may sheet both...

The big news of the day was getting the interior and its parts painted. I'm sure down the line I'll have to touch it up, but I really couldn't go any further with the build until I got this done. The only thing left to paint is the green on the supports in the windshield. They're white right...

The next couple of items for the day were: #1 - I'm using 4-40 bolts and blind nuts everywhere that small screws or bolts are needed. 1 type of driver all the time. Also, my blind nuts are glued in place so they won't fall out down the line. I built the rack for my smart-fly and RX that goes...

Alright! Saturday update. I built my pull/pull rudder system. You really have to enjoy small screws, which I do. It might be a little bit of an overkill but I want a strong rudder system mainly because of the really large tailwheel and the anticipation of operating in rugged terrain and dirt.

Thanks Steve! I'm looking forward to getting this baby finished and out in the country doing some "off airport" takeoff and landings. I'm really glad I found your products... Having true balloon wheels really adds the scale touch. I'll watch my email!
