Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

I started the original build thread for this plane on 12/17/13... over 2 years ago. It's on it's 3rd motor. First motor never made it off the ground before I sold it. Second motor flew about 6 flights, but was incredibly boring to fly. I don't expect this motor to be "ballistic", but it...

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

I cut some vent holes in the bottom of the fuse yesterday, So the only thing left to do is CG the plane and wait for some good weather. Today's weather looks great for February, but we have some Boy Scout things to do with my son this afternoon. Anyway, I put the plane together in the...

IMAC The new Dalton 300 SP / 330

Don't you just hate it when work gets in the way of a good build? I used to watch those surgery shows every time they came on.... Fascinating work that you guys do.

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

Is that a bad-ass looking red head or what? I finished up the baffling inside the cowl (finally), and when I put the cowl back on, I forgot to install the aluminum louvers first (had to take them off to access the ignition modules)... so, one more time with the cowl off, but that should be...

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

OK... got the motor installed last night, and got it started up today. Just a little bit of tuning on carb to better suit the temp change from Florida, and it's running very smooth, on all 4 cylinders! Judging from how easy the motor started and ran, I think I may have inherited a twisted...

Tachometers - what do you use?

On the other hand... If the plane is flying well, it doesn't really matter how fast the motor is turning. I don't look at my telemetry screen on the enabled plane as much as I thought I would. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Tachometers - what do you use?

Yep, I know, but when you already have a plane set up with a 14 channel received that doesn't support telemetry, the thought of dialing in every servo again, setting trims and end points, mixes, etc...just to you can look at the screen for RPM...seems like a lotta work, not to mention a $300...

IMAC The new Dalton 300 SP / 330

There are a couple of Cam McCausey's Cardens around our field... Nice rides.

If you come home one day and all your planes are gone, I didn't steal them, its just an intervention! It is amazing how fast these go together in the right hands.

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

Yep, Gerhard took very good care of the situation. It wasn't free, but it was a very good deal.

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

I talked to Gerhard today at AI... the motor had a broken crankshaft. They've repaired it and are returning it today, so I should have it by the end of the week!

Tachometers - what do you use?

I'll look into that.. Thanks. The "solution" I'd like would have a y-cable coming off of the ignition (or use the dedicated tach connector on the 3W ignition). I would attach a servo extension cable to this, and have an external servo cable plug on the plane. I would plug the tach into that...

IMAC The new Dalton 300 SP / 330

Just tell her that you're building it for me, then once it's done, tell her I backed out on the deal. What are friends for?

Tachometers - what do you use?

I have the Fromeco tach also, been working great for years. One of my planes uses the built-in tach capabilities in the transmitter/receiver. That's certainly the best option, but if you don't use the right receiver, it's not an option. I wish there was a simple solution that would plug into...

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

Starting to wish I had purchased a new motor, but this one was at a good price, and the previous owner is very reputable in the hobby business. Stuff happens. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

LOL... This Pitts, or the motors on it, have become the bottomless money pit. But, I have to stay with it until I beat it. Hopefully the repair bill is minor. It ha been running pretty well, so I'm surprised with the failure. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

Well, it's going to be a little more time and a lot more money before this plane gets off the ground. I ordered a Smart-Fly dual ignition cutoff for it, and it came in this past week. I had previously been running on a single ignition cutoff and a Y-cable, but I never intended to fly it like...
