Are you going to register with the FAA? Cast Your Vote!

John Q does have to register, just like the rest of us. The only difference is that he doesn't have the AMA sending out proactive notification.

But, if there's an incident above 500 feet, then it occurs in space that was set aside for full scale aircraft. There's not a scenario where you could ever prove that you were not at fault. If an accident occurred below 500 feet on a runway that was designed to accommodate a full scale...

Assuming that you can tell where 400 Ft is..... Without telemetry.

I suspect that in 6 months or so, we'll see a process that allows you to go to the AMA website and register for BOTH AMA and FAA. They'l probably get a few cents out of the transaction, and they'll inform the members that they'll continue to work tirelessly to address the concerns of their...

Are you going to register with the FAA? Cast Your Vote!

Its a little (well, a lot) misleading that they are launching this is a UAV registration initiative... there's not a single question in the registration process about what you fly or how you fly, just your name, address, phone number and credit card number (they'll refund the $5 after...

Are you going to register with the FAA? Cast Your Vote!

That may be true, I can't argue it... but I know our club instituted, we were told at the request of AMA, to institute a 400 ft ceiling or risk loss of AMA affiliation. Also, the FAA has long held an expectation that modelers would operate at a 400 ft ceiling, with a 100 ft buffer between...

I think we can all expect to see the day where all receivers have some sort of altitude sensing capability, and when a model reaches that magic 400 ft threshold, it will idle down until you get safely under 400 ft.

You already agreed to stay under 400 feet when you got your AMA and chose to fly an an AMA affiliated field.

A123's make a world of difference for charging, no explosion danger, and they are very reliable... You just need to proactively charge them after every 3 or 4 flights. For me... that's just about a day's worth of flying.

I cut servo holes in the wings of a previous planes, and on this one I moved the elevator and rudder servos to the back, cutting holes and adding backing plates for support. And it still needed more tail weight! This plane was designed back when a DA150 was a big motor.

If I crash a plane in someone's yard, they'll find out who I am when I knock on their door, introduce myself and take responsibility for any damage that this incident caused. Reasonable people don't need new FAA guidelines to legislate right and wrong. Unreasonable people aren't going to take...

These are about as far as I can reach now... If if was a wooden plane, I'd cut an access hatch in the bottom.

After further review.. I think I'll just move the batteries. I was able to remove the original battery tray from its footing and shift it back to sit on a fuselage brace that runs across the back of the plane. A quick CG check tells me that with this shift, the CG is now 2 inches behind the...

Well, technically, its supposed to be an American flag, but CARF does call it the "Stars N Bars" scheme, which is another name for the rebel flag down here south of the Mason-Dixon..... You decide!
