FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

What we fly is model aircraft which is not mentioned anywhere in the law. There are many fixed wing drones. If I put gps and fpv on my planes, then it would fall under the suav catagory. Thats the way I read it. They will clarify eventually.

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

I looked up the definition of small unmanned aircraft vehicles and they are drones. They use video or gps to fly and cannot comply with the "see and avoid" rule. The faa link to register shows a "drone" in a picture. It also refers to drones a few times. I think it is a poorly written law but I...

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

I read that stupid faa link. They show a picture of a quad copter. I will play stupid on this one. It doesn't say big smokey edge, so I am not going to worry about it until AMA says I fly an "Anmanned Aerial System". Then, I will sever my ties with the ama.

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

It is all about line of sight. That is the rule. If you are flying way up high and using electronic visual means instead of watching the craft with your own eyes, you are in violation. Period. The multi rotors that use camera guidance should require a class and a license to operate. If it is...

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

It's really not about the money per say for me, it is about the stupidity of it all. The people that sit in their gubment office and dictate laws when they really have no clue what is going on in the real world. Only to get my name and address along with my money and put it in the special file...

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

So I am not going to register. What that law from 2012 means is that we "ama members" that operate at an ama field are not reqired to have the faa license. If someone shows up at my club and asks to see the faa license, I show them my ama and inform them of the 2012 law. Simple.
