As you can see in the picture below, the visible areas of the canister tunnel were laminated using .25mm carbon fiber sheet. The floor of the fuselage between the end of the canister tunnel and the rudder tray also received a floor panel made from 1/16" lite ply laminated with .25mm carbon...

In previous threads within this post I have pretty much covered the build of the firewall and bulkhead. these next pictures show the beginning of the fuselage build. After the rudder tray was installed, flexing of the stock floor plate could be seen when the rudder servo was actuated to each...

Pilot has the best customer service backup in the industry in terms of getting you going again after a mishap, no doubt. They also will sell you pre-cut covering on top of the free wood. That's a lot better than waiting for month's for a container that may or may not have what you need. Like...

Sure have. The carbon EDGE has had an intermittent dead stick problem which turned out to be a bad ignition, but that problem will be resolved as soon as my new ignition gets here from DA. She flew at the Kennett 3D Bash, and the Carbon EDGE will be at the Tulsa 3D Bash in October. Brian...

I would probably be scared if I added up all the hours LOL. I started the build last November, and worked on the carbon EDGE on and off when I had time. The plane was ready to maiden before warm enough weather came in the spring. I really don't know exactly how many build hours are in it.

Hi Brian, When I get to Tulsa the keys to the Carbon Edge are yours. This is a great opportunity to get a great pilot on the sticks to make a nice video to cap off the build thread when it's done. I look forward to meeting you and Gyro.

Hello Alawson999, I know it works great for building, not sure about a roof mount, stay out of parking garages! I found that over time, the two feet that get mounted to the bottom of the stand can get loose. There are two screws holding each of the feet. I put "L" brackets on the inside...

That's great! I'm not looking for a pilot to kill the EDGE, but we can give him so fly time, copy the current set up and let him make his changes and fly it. sound fair? I also have another pilot, John Alexander that may show for the event, he is mike's and mines mentor. He WOWED em at...

I am he first to admit, I'm a beginner 3D pilot, build em, yes, fly them, in process. I need a pro / team pilot to put the sticks on the Carbon EDGE and put her through the paces. I already have a "maybe" pilot that may be at Tulsa that I trust with my life, but I need a back-up...

Hi AK, Some parts are just very hard to get geometrically correct using hand tools. The radiused part you are referencing is for the cowl of my Pitts M12, the rudder horn in the picture and the radius piece are CNC cut. I have access to this equipment through a friend. I simply write the...

Attached are pictures of the completed work under the cowl. inside the motor box you can see the bellcrank choke design. This design worked out very well to align the choke rod with the cowl opening left of the prop opening.

These are examples of shapes that can be produced from carbon fiber. Cutting and shaping carbon fiber is much the same as working with wood. You can create almost any shape using the tools that I previously listed. Make sure you use a surgical grade mask!

In post #9, I began discussing the tools necessary to work with carbon fiber. I forgot to mention that when using the adhesive sheeting to bond the carbon fiber, heat can also be used instead of a pressure roller. A covering iron with an old sock works really well too. In this picture, I...

Hi BB, Not using A123's, I agree A123 packs would be very heavy. I'm using Fromeco Lion packs. The carbon EDGE uses all high voltage servos, the power board uses two packs for redundancy and separation of the servo power from the receiver. A third pack is used for the ignition on a...
