IMAC The new Dalton 300 SP / 330

Cam, It looks like this plane is not setup for tuned pipes, just canisters. Am I missing something? It just looks like there is no exit past the wing tubes and on my LX the RE3s exit past the trailing edge of the wings.

@Bartman any word on the shirts yet? I haven't received an invoice so, I was just wondering what the status is.

DLE 170 dead cylinder and piston

The anticipation of the GP 176 EVO is killing me! It is supposed to be sunny and 60+ this Sunday with light winds and I have nothing to fly :( It sucks that I have been flying in sub 40 weather with 10 - 15mph winds and when the sun comes out and wind dies I have nothing to fly.

DLE 170 dead cylinder and piston

We won't know for sure until I get it back together later in the spring but, I am betting that was the issue. If I didn't have another engine on the way already, we would know sooner :)

Joe Hunt RC 3D FLY IN -- Pics & Vids

That is cool! I do a lot of shooting at our local fun flys and other events myself. Just enjoy capturing the moment and seeing the look on a pilots face when they see some of the shots I get :) Keep up the great work and thanks for being here :)

DLE 170 dead cylinder and piston

I believe @Bill Vargas hit the nail on the head with his analysis of the mating surfaces. I also noticed that the bolts weren't anywhere near as tight on the right jug as they were on the left jug when I took it apart. I have a GP 176EVO coming for the 330LX and will rebuild the DLE for the 42%...

DLE 170 dead cylinder and piston

I did notice that the bolts while snug, were nowhere near as tight as the other side so I believe you hit the nail on the head. I have a GP-176EVO coming and will rebuild this one and put it back in my 42% Pilot Edge for a backup/free style plane :) Thank you for the input.

DLE 170 dead cylinder and piston

All bearings are there as far as I can tell. Everything in the reciprocating assembly still feels nice and tight but, now that you mention it, I will take a better look just to double check. I haven't taken the pistons off the rods yet. The retaining clips are all in place and in good shape.

DLE 170 dead cylinder and piston

There is a single score straight between the 2 exhaust ports that is deep enough that it won't hone out on the other cylinder :(

DLE 170 dead cylinder and piston

I talked to Ken Crane and he thinks it may have went to lean just long enough for the piston to start to let go and the rest happened from there. He said that there was a known issue with fuel delivery to the front cylinder, which is the one that got tore up, and they would go lean with no...

DLE 170 dead cylinder and piston

The ring is still intact, just missing stuff where the rest of the damage to the piston is.
