The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Got out after a couple months of not being able to. My son and I had a blast getting some stick time. Had a bunch of guys from the club out so I really enjoyed talking to them. Great day of flying with the Fort Smith Flightmasters!

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Rained most of the day, but I did finally get brave enough to cut the cowl! Thanks to everybody that makes a video, does a build thread, or just shares their technique. I was nervous cutting into it, but I think it turned out ok.

The I'm NOT going out flying thread.

I didn't make it out to fly the planes this weekend, but my son and I flew down the Pinewood Derby track! Had the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Saturday. He placed 2nd in his class and I took 1st in the Outlaw class! I think I was a excited as he was!!!

I got a little more done on the RedwingRC Extra tonight. I put the wheel pants on. I ended up having to elongate a pre-drilled hole on each pant. They just didn't line up. But after just a few seconds with the Dremel, fits like a glove.

    Old Hot Rod problems

That is the good thing, everything is there. Some of it is damaged and will be replaced, but the rest is there. I am pretty stoked to get it. Another week then I will go hang with my family for a few days and try to get it running. I am going to trailer it to my place where I can get to work on it.

    Old Hot Rod problems

I hope to find some from back when it was a beauty, but he is how she sits now... Yes, that is a sawed off tree that had grown between the bumper and grill. Lots of work ahead, but I am looking forward to it. It has been my dream car since I was a little kid. For as long as I can...

Got some workshop time today. Some little maintenance on the Giant Big Stick. Spent most of my time today cutting two Pinewood Derby cars. Time is running out on me!

    Old Hot Rod problems

Well, I got up here and the hood is open. Had to have someone lift on the front and back corners at the same time. The old car is in really rough shape. Rats/mice chewed the plug wires. Not sure what else. The interior is a mess. There is a ton of work to get it where I would even be able to...

    Old Hot Rod problems

Great idea. I will see what I can find. That does sound like a handy tool to have around. They are about 5 hours away but I am going up in the morning to see what we can do. I have wanted this car since I was about 7. So I am pretty excited even though it is in pretty rough shape.

    Old Hot Rod problems

I am going to my parents on Spring Break to pick up my dads 1970 Olds 442 W-30. It has sat outside and is in pretty bad shape. I am figuring on a pretty extensive restore. But I am very excited to get the car. So my dad was looking it over in prep for the move, and I have a little problem...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Is that the voice of experience? I bought the plane last spring and haven't had the time to get it going. I have found spots on the cowl that look like egg shell that I am sure weren't like that when I inspected it when it arrived. So I am going to have to do something with it anyway. Thanks...

Great Planes Giant Big Stick with a DLE 35RA pulling it around. It is my first gas plane. It is a lot of fun for just horsing around.

My son and I got out this afternoon. Had a blast. Started to get a little windy, but I got some good flights in on the Big Stick. Practiced cross-wind landings!!! Fun stuff.
