3D 30% Cap 232 From Plans

BalsaDust

Moderator
Ok so here goes. I decided to move my build thread of my Cap 232 over here from that other site. The plane is pretty much complete other than finishing up the plug for the cowl and making parts from it, gluing on the canopy, and finish up the electronics. I have decided I really need to finish this plane as it has been over a 2 year project now and I'm tired of seeing it just sit there. Also might have something to do with another member (wecoyote) asking me at work all the time "Did you finish your Cap yet"? So these first few post will be moving the majority of the pictures over to this site and hopefully tonight I will get my shop cleaned up a bit and start working on the cowl plug. Maybe, just maybe if I light a fire under my ass I will have it done before the end of this flying season.

Is it done yet? :biggrin-new:

You got to tell the story of the cowl and why I rebuilt my Cap with a brand new cowl.

You meen this story tom. Where I swerved to miss a deer and hit 3 trees instead destroying your cap cowl that was in the passenger floor board.

Ya, that's the one.

For those that don't know the whole story, My Carden Cap was broken due to an engine problem at a very inconvienent time but the cowl was still good. I had let Chris borrow my cowl as a visual aid while sculpting the plug for his Cap. He didn't want anything to happen to my cowl by puting it in the back so he placed it on the passenger side floor board where it wouldn't get scratched. On his way home the above accident happened. In the second picture you can see the remains of my cowl. Well, Chris bought me a brand new cowl from Carden to replace it. That was the deciding factor to make me rebuild my Cap.

Building a plane from scratch like you are doing takes time. When I did this it takes me one winter to besign and draw out every detail and part. The next winter to make all the parts and the third winter to build no finish the plane it is three year project, at least for me it is a lot of work. Like what your doing and it is looking good.

Maybe one day I will finish this one. I kinda CAPPED out on it while making a plug for the cowl when I came across a Carden 30% Cap 232 for a great deal that got all the stuffings in it from this one.
