Hi fellow builders and fliers.
I just purchased a Wendel Hostetler plan to build a Howard DGA-6 "Mr. Mulligan". Any feedback to help would be much appreciated. Best hobby shops for parts and accessories? Electronics, anyone have experience with FR Sky radios and receivers? How about smart-fly? It looks like cool stuff, is it necessary? I have a ton of questions. Anyone that I can communicate with particularly in regards to the WH plan and building experience, I would be appreciative. Thanks.

I fly a Futaba transmitter and use FrSky receivers. I'm satisfied.

With respect to servos, while my $40 DS180DLHV is enough servo, if it were me I'd probably use the $50 DS360DLHV on all flight controls. https://www.promodeler.com/D360DLHV and don't forget this stuff;

Battery - http://www.promodeler.com/LiFePO4-2S2500-20C
Switch - http://www.promodeler.com/DSSW20A (you want two)
Extensions - http://www.promodeler.com/servo-extension.aspx
Servo arms - http://www.promodeler.com/arms.aspx (I recommend PDRS101 and 102)

I have been using a Frsky x10S for the past 2 seasons and I am very happy with it. I am using the RX8R Pro receivers in all of my planes including a 35% Hostetler RV-4. Takes a little getting used to in terms of programming and I have only scratched the surface of it's capabilities. I have also built a 35% Hostetler Pitts S-1-11B.

Thanks for the reply. Wondering how the WH plan went together for you? I am waiting for National Balsa to send the wood. Seems a little short on details. I like the FRSky Price for what seems to be great transmitter. What battery voltage are you using for the 35% Pitts? Is one better than the other for large scale? Are you using ProModeler servos also. Any help is appreciated.

Both Hostetler projects went together fine but they are certainly not for a new or novice builder. One of the most challenging aspects of building from plans with little or no instructions is the building sequence. I can tell you that several times during the course of both builds I had to "undo" something due to this issue.

I am using 2-25000 mAh Life batteries, a Smart Fly power expander and Hitec 7955 servos all around. The RV-4 has a DLE 60 Twin and the Pitts has a DLE 111.
