Finally did some float flying with the 84" TBM. Very nerve racking at first as the pond I'm flying from at work at its narrowest spot is only 125' wide.
You'll get over it quickly. It's high alpha with flaps down are predictable so you can drag the ends of the floats in the water and then give her a little juice and gently plop it down. It's a great floatplane!

Well did the maiden on the 35cc Skywing slick V3. Interesting plane flies very well and extremely light. Landing is very different it comes in surprisingly fast for some reason, then at the last second before touchdown it slows down very quickly and land’s great but it is something I am going to have to get use to.
like the plane and would recommend it it most.

If you can lower your approach angle it'll be better. The airfoils on these planes are pretty sharp and efficient like a glider wing, so it picks up speed quickly with the nose down. Fly flying location makes it hard to flatten the approach, so I end up putting my planes in a small slip most of the time on approach.
 
Back in Salmon for a few days of flying and food!

Planes charged but opted out today. 92 degrees is a bit warm. I’ll reconsider in the morning.
 
We're hitting a couple good restaurants here. We don't really have any good places to eat in Ashton, so we enjoy a couple when we come to Salmon. Last night was giant prawns and Modelo. Great pizza the night before. Tonight, 5 cheese tortellini soup!

Between intermittent rain I flew more today than I have in months. Nice breeze, summer heat is gone and I get enough football out of my system on Saturdays to just enjoy the day.

With the heat gone I am going to try to fly twice a week this fall.

With my infrequent flying and our fairly tight field is in a mountainous (and trees) area my landing skills struggle. I am developing a reputation for going through props regularly. I primarily fly my 120cc Yak so 28x10 props are $100+……. Sunday was pretty slow so the team president worked with me on my approaches for quite a while. I returned today and we worked for 3-4 hours on my landings. I burned a gallon or more of fuel today. Here’s to longer lasting props!!!

I’ve had a little 20cc Carbon Cub unused/taking up space in my trailer for a couple of years. Underpowered plus extra setup time so I only flew it a few times. It was close to being unloaded and abandoned at my shop but I ended up giving it away today. Many many years ago in my .60 size plane flying an older (blunt persona) club member would go through my plane for hours before he would let me fly it. And he was always right. He eventually abandoned flying to fish full time. Fast forward 15 years and he rejoined the hobby last year. He 75-80 and just flies little electrics but asked about my Cub today. I asked him if he wanted it and he didn’t understand the question. I told he had saved so many of my planes of the years he could just have the plane. He went home very happy.

I understand the struggle! The cruise ships are starting to thin out here and I'll have some flying field time back. Curious to see how the 27x11 prop does, I hope it's not too fast for my approaches. I usually put the plane in a small slip to slow down my steep approach. Guessing I'll switch to a 28x10... but I was going to say maybe the 27x11 would be nice to gain a bit of ground clearance if that's part of the issue?
