Discussion The I’m going out flying thread 2018

All this talk of cold and snow in the North and all the sunshine and bare ground in the South is making me very agitated. To make matters worse, I got off work a little early today. Looked up at the clearing skies and seeing the sun shinning through the disappearing clouds. The temps in the low 40's and no wind. And me...with no plane charged. ARGH!!! So to relieve a little of the stored up ansiness, I am going to make an attempt tomorrow. Weather permitting of course. From the looks of the skies tonight...there is a pretty good chance I am going to give it a try.

Nothing but clear skies and stars....Oh it will be quite chilly in the morning. But come 11'ish, I should have the Baby Yak-ster charged and ready to go.

Well, only the morning stars of venus and mercury and a passing jet this morning. But the skies are still crystal clear and blue. Supposed to be that way until around 2 this afternoon. High temp of 40... soooo, Gotta git that Baby Yak on the "X4".
Keeping my fingers crossed.... "and warm". Hee hee:laughing: good-luck-smiley-emoticon.gif

After waiting endlessly for my flight packs to charge, I finally made it to the field. Did you all know that flight packs and eggs are super related? Just as it is true that watching an egg boil does not make the water boil faster, same can be said of watching battery packs charge. They don't peak any faster either way. Lol.

It appears I was the only brave soul to whether the weather. (Little pun on words there) But as you all can see, 41 degrees, nice blue skies and about 8 mph wind. Clear runway and no one in sight. Time to get my Yak attack on.

Unfortunately I only got one flight in. It seems that cheap junk muffler supplied by BE decided to break clean off right at the flange. No big. I just happen to have a header and a canister set aside for this specific reason. Guess I'll be swapping that out later. Lol

Great to get out and fly though. Hoping for an early..."WARM" spring!

The last time I flew by myself I caught my arm with a 45cc propeller. I was extremely lucky as I literally iced my arm with a full cup of Taco Bell ice and froze the damage. I still have the scars today as a reminder. Please be careful when you fly by yourself.

Thank you. I always try to be as safe as possible. I have a leather glove I now use. We also have restraints and I use them religously.

I reached over the prop to turn a switch and it got me. Leather glove, restraint, all of that was being used but it still got me while I was by myself.

Funny thing is chilling the damage with the ice cup worked so well I was able to consider loading my idling plane before I headed to emergency care. While I considered loading it I realized I might as well fly the tank of gas out vs pumping it. So I did.

You's crazy. Lol. Now this is a shining example of a true Enthusiast in our Hobby. What the heck, I'll fly my tank out before I go to the emergency room. Lol.
