Wow! when it rains it pours! First of all let me say how much i appreciate your offer to help. I have a remarkable (at least to me) story to share with everyone. I was standing at the workbench pondering my options trying to come up with a way to work with what the plans showed which was the height and width of the forms but not their shape. My eyes drifted over to the plan legend in the corner of the sheet where the designers name was listed, a Mr. Dennis Caudill I scratched my chin and thought to myself, well you've tried everything else. So I pulled up DuckDuckGo, that's the search engine I use, I despise google and put in a search for his name and found a bio listing Direct Connection RC as one of his companies and that he could be contacted on a site called Linkdin. So I went there and left him a message detailing my needs and he contacted me back and actually went to all the trouble of searching thru his archives until he found the cad drawings for the kit on COMPUTER TAPE! Which he had to find a tape drive to utilize and then put it on something he could email to me. What a guy! I was ready to just sell it as a partial parts missing kit, but now I have line drawings of all that's missing. AWESOME! Swifterdon! I will be getting serious about creating a mold off the Vac formed kit piece and I'll keep you in the loop as I progress. I will b e happy to make you a copy. Many thanks! I don't care how many RC companies go bankrupt, BUILDING planes will always be my hobby, Ill mix my own glow fuel and grow my own balsa if I have to.

New to GSN!
Glad to hear it all worked out. We had already traced the formers and were ready to send them, but getting the “real deal” from the designer adds a much more interesting story to the build. I have been modeling for over 50 years, with a few breaks here and there for marriage, kids and career. Flew full scale for years, owned a flight school and am now retired.

Back to working on my restoration project, a ‘70’s Pica Waco YMF-5.... also building a Top Flite Stinson SR-9 that is nearing completion.

Like you, love the hobby and the folks I meet.... would love to have a copy of that Fiberglas cowling... would be happy to chip in for the cost ... that cheap plastic one won’t last long!

I just made a thick balsa cap for the back of it, after I glue that in I will put a hole in it and pour in some hydraulic cement to stabilize the shape. Then shoot some primer on it and sand, reprime, sand, reprime, etc..., Then stick it to plexi and lay up a mold. I found some pretty bad out of round in it at the front where the smaller diameter starts I can sand a little of that out but the thickness of the ABS is not sufficient to get it all. I will put a thick cove of gel in the transition so you can work that area over and not sand thru it. Pica Waco, not for the faint of heart! I

I got the cement filling into it early this morning, I'll give it a sanding and then shoot a thick coat of 2K on it later. I forgot how warm that epoxy cement gets as it hardens, not so hot that it melts anything, but pretty warm.

Worked it over with 150 grit. I was able to knock the horns off those out of round areas more than I thought I could. Here is an absolute gem of a spraygun that I bought last year. I've always used the little SATA HVLP guns but they are getting super expensive (not like they were cheap before) and basic maintenance parts like nozzles and aircaps are just stupid expensive. I have big HVLP guns made by Sharpe that I really like and I saw they made small guns too called FINEX. They are great, 95% the quality of a SATA at 1/4th the price, if you shop around you can find them in the 105$ to 120$ range. What I really love about these little gravity feed guns is how miserly they are with material, I was able to put three good wet coats on my cowling with one plastic coffee scoop (see pictures) of primer, and clean up doesn't use a ton of solvent.
