Damn I'm hungry
Getting closer to a first start :). Engine is bolted up to firewall and air intake filter / throttle and choke control linkage completed. Was concerned at first with the air filter fitting because the 72 sets the carb about 3/4" further back. Had plenty of room after all.... :fist_pump:.

I did away with the "exhaust chest" on the airframe and will be using a simple 22mm Teflon tube extension to route exhaust away from the bottom of the plane. It was noisy and messy. I also took the time to re-route the main Rx antennae's for better reception. My flight logs where consistently showing 200 to 250 data packets being lost on the main RX. The three remotes would only show 10 to 25 packets being lost. According to Spectrum anything under 100 data packets being lost is acceptable. Just need to bolt on the header and install the batteries back to the side of the motor box. Then It will be time to drill and fit the Falcon 24x9 CF prop and fill the tank back up :).

Looks like you getting real close for a test flight. Should be quite a change in power, let’s know.

Definitely will test run the engine and get a starting point set on the needles but a test flight will depend on the weather. I do not like operating in this heat and muck we call weather down here . It's too hard on engines imo and my  engine as well. If a particularly pleasant evening shows itself in the weeks ahead I may maiden the engine. If not.....I will probably have the "other" Extra ready too :twins: by the time good weather shows up.

I understand what you are talking about we are having unusually hot weather at the moment it is in nineties and humidity in the 100. We are not use to that up here. That kind of heat is not flying weather and it does not help that I am not as young as use to be. It seams the heat bothers me more as I get older. And sure that the planes suffer from that kind of heat as well especially the electrons inside the plane.

It's ready for its first start and run :brian-banana:. Will need to trim the cylinder opening on the cowl just a wee bit since the DJ72's cylinder is about 5mm taller than the DL50 and the cylinder also sets back about 3/8" over the DL50. Nothing that my trusty Dremmel drum sander can't handle. Now to the really good news so far about this engine and getting ready for its first start and run. As I stated in the past I removed the carb and reeds for internals inspection and overall condition of a new engine. I found the reeds not seating properly and the inside of the engine needing imo a bit more lubricating oil prior to starting the engine. Well it all paid off doing this inspection because once I got the prop mounted and a bit a gas in the tank I was literally astonished at the cold compression and how fast the engine drew fuel up to the carb from a completely dry state!. It took only 4 flips to get fuel to the carb with the choke on and throttle set 1/2 open. And every time I pulled the prop through compression the tail of the plane wants to lift up because it's so strong. I will definitely have some one with me for the first start of this Beasty engine :yesss:.
