Great Planes Giant Stick XL

Some time around the end of May, I came to the sad realization that my AMR 50cc Stick build will be in mothballs for the foreseeable future. . . . . :cryin:. So, when my LHS got a Great Planes Giant Stick XL ARF a couple of months ago, I decided to go ahead and get it. . . . . :fist_pump:. I'm going to use the servo's and all the other goodies that I bought for the AMR. Since this ARF is going to be around 4 pounds lighter than the AMR. Plus the fact that the rudder and the elevator servos are not in the tail, I think my 3Dub 70 twin is going to be a bit too heavy and overkill for this plane. Therefore, I have decided that I will bolt my 3Dub 55 XI CS to the fire wall. While it will be more power than the plane will ever need, I think the red head will look cool with the mostly red plane. . . . . :yesss:.

Now for the "Slightly Modified" part. To be perfectly honest, I have never liked the scalloped edges on the flying surfaces or the round vertical fin & rudder of the GP Stick. Therefore, I have decided to make new straight flying surfaces and an "Ultrastick" vertical fin & rudder. These are simple mods that I should be able to knock out fairly quickly.

There are a couple of things keeping me from diving in to building this ARF. One of which is that nasty four letter word called "work". The other thing that is holding me back is that I broke out with a case of the shingles back on the week before Memorial Day and they are about to drive me crazy. . . . . :big_yes:. I hope that they will go away soon so I can get going. I also hope that starting this build thread hasn't jinxed me. . . . .. As usual, all comments and tips will be greatly appreciated.

Wish me luck Fella's.

You better take it easy on the popcorn Buddy. I wouldn't want to see it go to your waist line before I can get started. . . . .

Ok we are starting over I am in for the ride.
Thanks for joining in Buddy. I cannot wait to get started. . . . . :big_yes:

Hey Doug, glad you could join us my friend. . . . . . :yesss:

Lights, Camera, Action! :)
Hey Kelly, how's it going my friend. Are you going to fly your Alien this weekend?

Well fellas,

I did do a little light reading tonight. I pulled out the manual and read it and this plane is a bit different. Even though the box was HUGE, the fuse is in two pieces. It's not going to be difficult to put together, it's just different. The instructions call for one elevator servo with the rods soldered together. I have never liked this approach so I hope the fuse is wide enough to mount a servo for each elevator half. That's about all I have for tonight, I am bushed and I need to get my beauty sleep. . . . . . . .:bigyawn:
