Boy that is tight. What if you were to omit the balsa brace and replace it with a piece of plywood in a U-shape configuration to allow room for the pipe. U may have to do something similar for the motorbox support. Or rather than plywood use a carbon fiber laminate. You may want to incorporate your mounts into the new pieces. Something similar to the traditional plywood mounts might work best for you.

thank you very much! that is a great Idea. I still want to know if anyone has any experience with that motor / pipe combo, and what my header length should be?? Seems like a rather long header..

Sorry Ortho I can't help you with that, I'm running 12" header, different motor and pipes so kind of irrelevant. But maybe contact Trevor Brum rccanucks.com He has a great knowledge of motors, pipes and header lengths. He's a great guy

Cam, it looks like the header drop is about 10mm too much! It would probably be better for you to get the headers from DA wiith the correct dropdown and length than rebuilding the cross braces. I think the PRO required a 90 mm drop down but DA can tell you exactly what is required.

BTW I enjoyed your contest - as usual!!

yep, I got the 90 mm drop headers. I will call them. Thank you, Cam

Well, soon, I will get back on the build. Here is the answer I got from Desert Aircraft, and it is a good answer:

regarding the header lengths...

Hi Cam

We use the standard length (12”) headers from MTW with the KS1090’s. The headers were shorter a few years ago, but most customers preferred them at 12”. Shorter can sometimes give a bit more rpm, but the power curve can get “peaky”.

Prop selection is a factor for optimal header length. A general theme for proper tuning is smaller props/high rpm need shorter headers and larger prop loads/lower rpm need longer headers.

Thanks

Hey Cam, if you are looking to offload the 90mm drop headers and they are for a 170, let me know. I will be needing a set once I get the 176EVO put back together this week :)
