I found it pretty interesting that most of the members here are using the same user name they had at the "old and dying" site. I did the same. I spend a significant amount of time volunteering my time for the National Ski Patrol. In winter I am up on the mountain quite a bit taking care of injured skiers on the slopes. I also spend a lot of time teaching. This month I am working on our annual continuing education with both first aid and CPR. One of my specialties is advanced trauma simulation, or moulage. I create prosthetics for advanced training or testing. This spring I was in Portland teaching others in the country how to simulate injuries.

Last year I had the task of simulating amputated fingers for a practice first aid problem. On a lark, I took a picture and sent it to my brother telling him that my plane had got me. If he did not know me better he would been easily fooled. I have thought about doing this to some of the guys at the field, but my guess is they wouldn't find it very funny. Perhaps I could pull this stunt on the FG crew at Nall next year. Who wants to video it?

Well, my "handle" may have a double meaning to those that have seen me fly and have lots of "altercations" with the ground - I seem to plant a lot of airplanes in the dirt! However, that is NOT the origin of my handle! My handle came from what I did in my professional career - I was a Soil Chemist and I have a PhD in Soil Chemistry! Us Soil types have a thing about people calling Soil dirt!! It's not dirt, it's soil until (get this) it's under your fingernails but then it's really not dirt but misplaced soil so take that!!!

I'll take it like a grain of sand. Now go out and "soil" yourself:dancing-poop:

When I was a little kid, my older brother flew control line combat. Man, I thought that was the coolest thing ever. He belonged to a club called the "Aero-Nuts". About 15 years ago when I got into my first r/c Internet group, the IMAC list-serv, I took his old club name plus Tennessee. Something different and it still makes me smile to think of him.

ORTHOBIRD =

orthopaedic surgeon (that is me)

Bird = airplane

Ortho actually refers to the practice of making a child grow straight. that is origin of ortho-paedics, ortho meaning straight, paedics refers to child.

so orthobird, means, to me, an airplane that is straight and built true to fly straight.
