Got back to work on the lathe. I had started on the four jaw chuck, but needed some tooling and it finally got here. So I got back to work on it. I still have to make three more jaws. They take some time to make. Here's the progress so far.

Got the splash guard modified today and got the lathe put back together. I like the added space with the guard moved back. Should have done it sooner. Also built the chip guard over the cross slide scale. Every thing is back up and running.

Yep, I'll have a cross slide guard. The one I'm putting back on is the splash guard on the backside. I'll extend it out a bit so the chips don't get too out of control.

Got the carriage scale installed. It works great so far. Only checked a 3" travel so far, but it's right on the money. I've got to build some extensions for the guard tomorrow so I can get it all back together.

I'm finding that the tool list is never ending! Just ordered some more tool holders for my QCTP. And I'd really like to pick up an Anvil Micrometer.

Got the cross slide all working good. Just need to add the plexy glass shield.

Looks like you need a set of parallels to! I've been looking at fly cutters on ebay myself.

Tony, Now you have me thinking about a smaller scale. Maybe the Electronica MagnaSlim magnetic scales. I think it would work betting on my 7 x 14. Was it easy to rewire your scale plug?

Got the 70mm slim yesterday and went to figuring things out. I mounted it to the carrage using the follow rest mounting points. I might re-do it and bolt it from the bottom. Don't know if I'll ever need a follow rest, but with this setup I can't. I also still have to figure out how I want to...

I'm hoping the 70mm slim will have enough travel for my cross slide. If not, I'll have to pick up a 5" and cut it. I think it will work though. I only have about 2.75" of travel on the cross slide.

Spent a little time yesterday and worked on the headstock. I still have to take a file to it and smooth out all the casting marks, but so far so good.

I've also watched a couple of videos of how people cut the glass scales. It can be done.

Thanks Tony, And yep, a 90* chamfer end mill. I've never used one before, so I went with small cuts. I was worried about ending up with a lip at the bottom of each cut and there was a slight lip I couldn't get rid of, but it's very minor and easy to blend in. You can see them in the second pic...

An auto feed setup on the X axis is most likely the next upgrad I'll do on my mill. After all the back and forth while I was cutting in the ways on the tiny lathe bed really made me want one. Here's the link to the linier scales I purchased. There's a drop down box you can choose from. So far...

It's a 14" travel linier scale, and though my lathe is a 7 X 14, I don't get the full 14" travel due to the chuck and tailstock tooling. I think I could have gotten away with a 12" and been fine. I'll post some pics when I get it on the machine. Took me a couple of nights to get the tiny lathe...

Got some more work done on the lathe bed. I used a 1/16" end mill to cut the center slots. Took small cuts and many passes. Then I got the bed ways cut in. I think it turned out good so far.
