Those are a mix of balsa and foam right? Are they pretty tuff, in other words will they take some punishment and be easy to repair?
I have a friend who is a noob and wants to get into it with me.

Oh they can take some punishment. As long as you don't go in real hard they can be repaired quite nicely. Foam glues back together well.
