I don't feel like getting a fine or be on a faa list so I will abstain for now. It gets too cold to really enjoy flying here in the winter anyways so I will see if they pull their heads out of their a$$es by spring. I am glad I did't pull the trigger on another 100cc plane.

Enforcement for this ruling is being left up to local law enforcement agencies. I guess I will be flying at my club and the sheriff's department will stop by and check to see if anyone is registered while someone across town is being murdered, raped or robbed. I understand why some of you are giving up flying because of all of this. Myself I can't stop flying. I love it too much. I will be LMAO when see reports of fines issued to drone pilots.
I agree on the locals not enforcing it. I do actually like all the new drone stuff. I actually don't like anyone being regulated. But going up to 2500 feet next to an airport is just dangerous. These morons need to be educated. That richard cranium that came over from switzerland and posted all of the fpv videos flying around the golden gate bridge and over cities on youtube did not amuse the feds either.

I'm not happy about this either but it says this in the fourth paragraph. "Registration is a statutory requirement that applies to all aircraft."

I have heard that the people who fly the ultra lights don't have to be registered. Is this true or not? Just asking.

So the FAA does not give a hoot about the AMA and the AMA is being a PITA..........how do we has model aircraft users band together and communicate with the FAA to give them a fresh perspective?? I've posted a couple things on the FAA home page, which may not go far but it's a step. To accomplish something it's clear we have to take action on our own, and I don't know enough about the FAA to know the avenue to get to them.

Here is what I posted this AM in response to the story on CBS news regarding drones:

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/.../14/faa-drone-registration/

When watching this news cast, the hundreds of thousands of us that fly actual model aircraft (not a drone, an airplane or helicopter) at an ama sanctioned field and in a responsible manner are being thrown under the bus! "Drones" are only common to "airplanes" by the fact that we fly with radio control and in the NAS. The portion of the NAS we use as aircraft pilots is always around an established aircraft field! We can't fly anywhere we want like a drone and don't want to! I certainly do hope that the FAA will take this into consideration with some degree of common sense for future rules imposed. To put this into perspective, what we do with our airplanes and helicopters would be like a full scale pilot only flying within the property of the actual airport! I don't want a drone flying in my neighborhood anymore than anyone else, and honestly they get in our way at the flying field just like you (but with less at stake). The AMA may have failed to even try to differentiate the different types of craft that make up model aviation to you. Even though "drones" are the fastest growing segment in the public eye, they are NOT model aircraft!

Unfortunately "We" as a group wont be able to influence the FAA directly. It's my educated guess that they could give a rats behind what we think. The only people they are going to listen to are politicians, or the press if you can make them look bad enough. And the only way to get a politician to do anything for you is money or public opinion/press.

I'm with the rest of you in the fact that the law is clear, but unfortunately so is the second amendment and it gets trampled on daily.

Terry,
I just want to clear up a huge misconception. There are NO AMA sanctioned fields...... AMA has members, they also Charter clubs, but there is no distinction where that club flies, some clubs have multiple fields (only 1 club charter), and some clubs don't have any club field (they might fly off school property, park property, etc...... but the AMA does not in any way have distinctive or sanctioned club fields..... heck, even in the AMA website, the clubs address might be the club secretary's home address..... just sayin.
This is one reason that I believe the FAA made ALL sUAS register, as an AMA member you can fly anywhere that it is legal to do so, and as long as you follow the AMA's safety guidelines, you are covered....HAS ALWAYS been that way.
