Scale JTEC 1/3 Scale Taylorcraft

My mounting brackets arrived today so I was happy to get one of the wing struts mounted. The mounting blocks on the wing are just tack glued for now. I will add braces and epoxy when I turn the wings upright.

On another note, I managed to locate the owner of the Taylorcraft whose color scheme I will be using. He is out of town at the moment but his significant other promised to have him send me additional photos when he gets back.

Finished installing the other wing strut. Flipped everything over upright and glued in mounting blocks and braces.

Another full scale photo from the owner.

Where did you get the door hinges?

I have mine in the shop on the floor out of the way but somehow Kevin managed to trip and break the tail. It looks like I will have to strip it and recover it!!

Thanks on the info on the hinges.

What happened is it didn't break the tail but broke loose the structure the stab is glued to. I could go in and just patch it but it would look like crap so a full recover. Since I did not build it, now I can go in and inspect it and make a few mods I know it needed

I would like to use wing fairings like the one in this pic. Any ideas as to what material would be best to make this from......plastic ?.....aluminum ?

All suggestions and advice welcome.

I have been struggling to fabricate aluminum wing fairings for my 1/3 scale Taylorcraft. I have made several attempts using light aluminum flashing but I have not been satisfied with the results. I have made one fairing that looks pretty good but each time I insert the wing it catches on the edge and I have to pry the edge up to get the wing in position.

Maybe I am using the wrong gauge aluminum ?

I have attached some pictures of what I am trying to achieve.

Any help and advice is welcome.

Well after 3 failed attempts to get this to look right, this what I have so far. Still not completely happy with it but it may have to suffice.

Your opinions ???

It looks pretty good to me?! It will look better when painted but I think it looks good.
