Rob, I may be planning a new scratch build biplane project and may be picking your brain about your Pitts if you don't mind.
OH heck yeah. I am always in for one of your amazing builds. Bring it on... and for what it is worth, I really don't know much, anything I can offer is yours.Rob, I may be planning a new scratch build biplane project and may be picking your brain about your Pitts if you don't mind.
Well, I...umm....uh, hmmm....You see I, ah... Ok, let me put it this way. If it was an EME 70 twin, you just might receive a birthday present early. If it were a PTE 72, again...the same. Or maybe even a DA 70....naaah. I would be really interested to see how the DA 70 compares to the "dub". But since it is a 3w, you do realize that I just can't part with any of my Kraut motors. LOL. Good thought though. Hee heeWell you see that Purdy little sukhoi in my profile picture. Well it flies great with the DLE55 on the nose but to get it to balance I had to make steel standoff and the batteries are as far forward as they can go and its still a touch tail heavy. So you see the point I'm getting at here is I know it will fit and I think that 70 twin would be a happy camper on the nose of this ole sukhoi, and my birthday is only a few months away. So I have to say thank you and I don't know where we would be without people as generous as you.
Rob,
we flew the prototype on a DA 50 with a canister. It flew great!! It balanced fine. Yup, I remember that. Which so happens is the primary reason I have been contemplating the swap. But it was nice to get your confirmation on this. Thanks so much.

As it stands, you may refer back and remember, I was being very anal about "NOT" cutting any holes in the cowl. Hence the engine swap would be cake. I just need to see where the cylinder of the BE would sit in relation to the big nodule on the bottom of the cowl. I half way suspect I would have to do a little trimming of the cowl. But not 100% certain. At this point, it is just a thought. I really want to see how that BE runs. But not at the risk of that two wing'd Pitts. Been there....(very recently) was not fun.Well I must admit that lighter is always better. But as you said it is flying great. Is the cowl cut for the 70 or if there are no cutouts then it is easier to bo no filling holes. But if you install the BE will the cowl need to cut to fit if so I would think about it. If the cowl stays intact then change it nothing to lose just work.
On the top of the list right now is a 28% Culp Special. I have another spare DA50 so that would be the power. As I design it I will probably be picking your brain about how things were done on your Pitts.OH heck yeah. I am always in for one of your amazing builds. There are several bipe fanatics here that I'll be hitting up as well.
This is what I want to build.
