I was wondering about the wood prop usage, my friend told me he uses one on his big balsa edge electric and he says it makes a big difference, but my biggest fear is cost and chipping on a nose down situation, but I'll definitely try one out when I get the 3DHS 48" Edge. See I'm in planning stage already. Already watching YouTube's...I'm anxious!
Thanks

Oh, that's just the start my friend, just the start. Use an APC until you are more comfortable. You won't be taking full advantage of the big performance benefit of wood for a little while anyway. When (notice I said when) you get the Edge please remember the plane is about $50 less than the avg 48" 3DHS and EF. There are reasons. People complain about the wire gear- there for reduced cost (CF goes about $20) and more importantly to be forgiving and bend rather than busting up the fuse. I ran the wire and yes you have to bend it back occasionally and no it doesn't work well in longer grass. Most leave the pants off and go with a larger light weight sport wheel. It is a great first 3 D trainer. Floatier than other Edges. You'll love it. There are mods for SFGs out there too if you are inclined to do that. My simple ones are on RCG.

Lets try and keep this thread about intros, and less about plane suggestions please.

We've got a couple open threads on the current topic of selection of airframes:
http://www.3drcforums.com/forumdisplay.php?17-The-Everything-Else-Airplane-forum!

Not trying to complain, I love the info being shared ... Just want to redirect it.

Sorry, lost my way. It was late!
Hi, I'm Daren!!!! Lol

Freakin tapatalk won't let me link correctly.
I think it's because the forum name has an exclamation point in it...

It's the "everything else airplane"
sub forum, within the main airplanes forum.

I'll try and post a good link later, after I take the exclamation point out :)

Intro....

Hi everyone! I'm Rick Pellicciotti and I live in the Memphis, TN area. I flew models and competed in pattern for 20 plus years. I had the privilege of calling for Bill Cunningham in all of the TOCs that he flew in at Las Vegas. In the late 80's I put the models down to concentrate on flying full scale aerobatics and build a couple of homebuilt airplanes. I am presently flying a Sequoia Falco which is just a big, all wood, model airplane that happens to hold two people and cruise at 200mph.

I have been watching with keen interest the development of the electric powered models and a friend of mine let me fly a couple of his. I really enjoyed it and I went out and bought a park flyer to play around with. I enjoyed that so much I started looking around for a more serious airplane and settled on the 3DHS 65" Vyper. It should be here next week. I am really looking forward to it. I know I will have a lot of questions.

Welcome. A very helpful and knowledgable group here. Ask away! You'll likely have an answer or three in minutes. Good luck with the Vyper.

Hey Rick, glad to have you here! Great choice of plane with the Vyper...great combo plane...pattern and 3D...I've got a 65 Vyper myself and the 65 Vyper thread should be on your favorites list...which motor did you decide on?
