IMAC new to me dalton 260/300, just want to fly it!!!

I added a dam under the cowl to help extract the hot air out....

i still have to paint it. i also improved the baffles as well, those will also have to be painted.

i may do these changes once i get her up in the air. if she survives the 1st flight, then i will fix it up more, and redo the wheels and axles, and other things.

here are the pics after i ran it and weighed it. total weight is 36 pounds. this does not include the weight of 4 servos, that still need to be installed (ailerons). each servo weighs 2 ounces, so that would be 1/2 pound more. (36.5 pounds is total weight) = not bad for a 42% airframe!!!

well, like i said before, sure do hope this does not snap (the bad snap here) once airborne.

i was impatient, and decided to crank on this animal... it is a DA 150 L with the large ProFlow Canisters. i am using a 32 x 10 wood prop by TBM. engine is brand new, ambient temp is 94 degrees. altitude is 260 feet. 40 to 1 red line oil with 93 octane fuel (ethanol free).

engine temp, both cylinders were within 10 degrees, was 250 degrees F. High RPM is 4600 (seems real real low to me :(

do not know why RPMS is so low.

the airplane is super quiet and has great throttle response. does not sound rich or lean.

My D300 was 38.5#, even after the repair to my wing panel.

4600 on a 150 with that heavy load TBM prop isn't bad. A MenzS will turn about another 1K faster. Mejzlik 30x12 will be in the same range, close to 6K. My favorite prop on my D300/3W 150-157 was the 30x12, anything (Falcon wood, Mejzlik, Xoar ENP).

Use that TBM prop to mix paint.

Thank you Bunky!!

I was sad at first, then went to the 150 thread on here and someone reported similar rpms, so now i know what I have to do!!

I think I may get a 31x12 Falcon carbon for my D300/3W 164 (3W157 lower/170 upper) and see how it flys. Mine needs a bit more speed for me to be happy again with it. 10 pitch isn't cutting it, even tho it pulls like a Mack truck on the uplines. Double snaps in each positive direction and it just goes.

Doc, I'm sure you thought of this but just in case. Make sure your tach was set for 2-blade. I thought I heard you mention somewhere that you like 3-blade props. Also, doesn't hurt to check the rpm's under different lighting conditions and sometime with a second tach just to be sure.

Looking good Doc. I can't wait for a flight report:)

great idea!! i will do that also. it did sound good and was pulling hard on my achilles!!!

i just found this prop in my trailer, a brand new falcon 30 x 13W. i just drilled it and mounted it, when i get home from work this evening, i will run it and see what happens. if it is still too much of a load, i will order a 30 x 12.

I think it'll be fine. My buddy stuck a 30x13 on an old heavy 3W 150. Spun it with ease. It is actually pleasing on the ears, not hearing the prop rip. And honestly, it isnt much louder than a good solid can set up. Spun that prop at 6K....... I was aprehensive about him trying a 13 pitch. But it works! This is on a big ole AeroPlus Yak 55M, 126" wing.
