I too took a little video but it sux. A bit of warning, it is shaky because my camera is real heavy. Without using a shoulder rig to support the weight, it's almost impossible to hold my camera steady. Please keep that in mind, and view at your own risk ;) Btw it is in 1080p. Also YouTube has already dinged me because of the incubus background music.

Here is 3dNater the first night I arrived in Utah. What a long night it was, but that is a whole other story.

Dude this is way better than the video I took. I got more of the flight but the planes are not in focus most of the time. I'm so frustrated I want to throw my camera across the room lol. The thing is it looked ok on the viewscreen while I was taking it and then looked horrible on the computer. I got this camera thinking it would be good for airplane vids... but this event has me doubting its abilities... my abilities for sure too ;)

There are some settings you can use to make decent video. Then its a matter of keeping everything steady and in the frame. Try shooing at f16 (aperture) in manual focus, focused at infinity. When the planes are close, rotate the focus ring to 20-30 feet, then when the panes fly past that 30 foot range, rotate the focus ring to the infinity mark (looks like a sideways figure eight). It's practice like anything else.

What I took is a joke. I really can make some great video when I have my camera rig set up. I have an external field monitor, and two guys work together to make it happen. One frames the shot, the other just looks at the field monitor, and pulls focus.

I have shot much in the way of planes, but I will try to do more of it soon.

hehe... you are definitely talking beyond the abilities of my camera... I think I can change the aperature setting to manual... not sure I can set focus to infinity or adjust manual focus. I need to spend a big chunk on a nice camera... maybe next February with my tax return.

This is what I have to shoot video. So far I have only used the auto settings. I have it on a nice tripod and a external zoom switch. I use the the little view finder built in with a after market shade. I am sure shooting with a nice 10-11 inch monitor would be nicer. sometimes I use the viewfinder. At the Fort Smith FLI I shot handheld as I did not bring my tripod, which I regret. For the Austin event the tripod is coming, one way or another.

What I need to learn how to use well is my Nikon D3000. At this point I just shoot in sport mode with a 300mm lense for airplanes.

Here is a painful video Gyro edited from the Jersey FLI that I shot the footage for with my setup.

Last years tax return funded my first plane and my camera, so there's reason enough!
