Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

I'm canting the firewall simply because the real one is. I "attempt" to do what use to be called precision scale. I don't have what I consider accurate drawings of the cross sections. The cabin sides under the windows I believe are nearly flat and become a little more rounded once behind the...

The Fibertech wheel pants are OK. But the cowl is strictly an early (1964) 140 Cherokee. Throughout the years Piper has probably used a dozen or more different cowls on the various models of that plane. The differences were driven by different engines, 4 and 6 cylinders and the cooling needs...

Just a warning, their scale is off. They state their cabin width is 12 7/8". The real Cherokee has a 42" cabin INTERIOR width. Cabin walls vary but are more or less 1.5 inch thick. Giving an exterior cabin width of some 45". 45" at 1/3 scale comes to 14.85". Interior width comes to 13.86"...

There's a limit to that however. I asked if I could get just the fuselage formers and they said no. Well, I have the plans and can use them to make what I need. They're not scale outline anyway. Close but still not quite there.

Yep! Exactly what I've done. I've found too that you can buy the dual wire probes for less than the radio manufacturers offer and with wire length measured in feet, not inches.

PFU? First word is Pilot, last is Up. Don't think the forum mods will let me tell you the middle word. :) My Futaba Gold box from the 80's has servo reversing, expo and even a mix which I've never used. Come to think of it so did my 70's series Kraft radio. And I can reverse a servo faster...

As Burt Rutan would say, “the technology you leave out cannot fail you.” :) And as we use to say, PFU... While I think computer radios have merit, I also wonder how many potential mistakes lie in all those settings? Especially for those not as computer savvy as most. I'd be curious of all...

Wouldn't a simple micro switch accomplish the same thing for no more than a buck? Gear up engages the switch which breaks the red wire on a servo extension (so you don't cut up the lead in the servo itself). Also follows the KISS principle.

Spitfire engine quits but can he land safely?

With over 50 years of RC flying and having practiced dead sticks until I could do them in my sleep...... He got it down in one piece which is good and the goal. However with the altitude he started with he had more than enough to get to the downwind end of the field and make a normal approach...

Yeah! Tall ceilings are a must. I have an RC sailboat waiting final rigging because only a couple of rooms in the house will accommodate the mast on the hull. Even with the hull sitting in a stand on the floor. Yep! Big Boat! Tall mast!

Probably will. Though I will say the aluminum spinner is cut to the same profile as the real one is. I'm curious to see how close the Falcon spinner is.

Thanks Tony. I sent a message to Falcon Props. We'll see what they say. I was curious how much weight you removed with the engine change. Pretty significant. That Roto is heavy but I suspect it would pull the weight around with ease. I'm planning to use an OS 320 Pegasus in mine (53cc)...

OK, a couple of questions. How big do the Falcon spinners go? I went to their web site and couldn't get any info on spinner sizes. Have they dropped the line or what? Anyone know? My particular Cherokee build calls for a 4.2 inch diam spinner. I have a custom made aluminum one but the lack...

I'll have to keep them in mind. I've dealt with Callie Graphics in the past and she does good work. But these guys should have all the right colors right at hand.
