Discussion Engines and landing gear

I have an old P51 that I "inherited". It's been in more than one local flyers shop for close to 30 years waiting to be restored. No one knows the manufacturer, its a 1/6 scale, balsa and sheeting, fixed gear, no flaps. I am going to try and rework it, nose to tail, install flaps and retracts, etc. So the discussion is #1 what would you recommend for an engine. I am thinking I want to run a 2 stroke gasoline motor 20cc or bigger and I have very little experience with the bigger gas motors. Which ones are good and which ones not so much. #2 is the landing gear. I will need to find something that is the correct size and style before I start modifying the wing. I contacted eflight and their response was none of their gear would work because they are model specific. Heaven forbid I use their setup in something else. They were no help. I like the thought of electric but would consider pneumatic if that's what I had to go with. I am capable of building parts if I have too I'm just not going to try something like struts etc. My lathe and mill are hobbyist sized and don't have the weight and adjustments for something extremely accurate. So lets have it, tell me your thoughts pertaining to my questions. I look forward to the comments.

Wingspan? Weight?
The Wingspan is around 75 inches, fuselage is 65. I expect with added flaps, gear, etc it will be maybe in the 12 to 15 pound range. Hard to say at this point. I still need to strip the fuselage. Here are some pics.

Is there enough room for a gas engine (carb)?
That is a great question. I initially thought I could find something but haven't gotten that far into the thought process. One of the reasons I posted here. My flying experience never took me into the larger plane arena until I got back into it recently. I have a 1/5th scale cub I need to finish. Then I plan on starting to tear into the P51. I need to get that old rotten covering off and apparently start thinking a little deeper than I have so far. Thanks.
