I deemed the control surfaces good enough for guide coat today. Thinking I might prime the wings and tips on Sunday and possibly paint next week. Had to come with a method to hold the parts so they can be turned during the color coat. I think I'm good now. The corrugations are a PIA!

That is next on my big to do list but I suspect that I will miss the fall painting season……. Oh well, college football is a perfectly legitimate excuse.

Here's the parts after the non sanding sealer was applied. This takes 20 minutes or so the cure before the color is applied. In my case I'm using white acrylic enamel paint with hardener. I had quite a few sand throughs that's why elected to use the sealer. I gave a good base and one coat of paint covered. Things didn't go as planned, I mixed the sealer per instruction but my primer gun didn't like it, while trying to sort it out I spilled a whole bucket of primer, about 18 ounces, then I had to walk in it the rest of the day.!

My subject full scale doesn't have the swooshes on the tips. The full scale wings tips had stress cracks and owner elected not to add the swooshes after repairing and painting the white color. His plane was painted with Imron and I would image would be north of $200 for the red paint. I had the color mixed in Mason acrylic enamel and it was $100. At any rate since this plane will not be judged I do plan to add them. Below is a photo of the original 30% lost on the maiden. Hope to paint the wing tips and position light covers tomorrow and I can knock down the cut room.
I need to add the wing walk as well on the right wing, plan to use flat black Rustoleum.
