    Futaba 18SZ

Latest photo. From a magazine ad. Looks like it will do all Futaba protocols. FASST/FASSTest/SFHSS/T-FHSS!!! 2100 lipo pack, ball bearing gimbals (like 18MZ), starting to look like an 18MZ minus 2 sliders and one dial.

I'm not sure they'll replace the 18MZ any time soon. Their top end radios seem to have a pretty long shelf life. The 9Z was very long lived and the 14MZ went 7 or 8 years. The 18MZ is only 3 years old. If this is near what it looks to be I have to think it will put a dent in 18MZ sales, but...

Given that the 14SG is $600 I think $800 might be a bit off the mark. From what I can tell this radio is closer to the 18MZ than the 14SG so that $1,100 number seems about right to me.

Looks like it is a reality now. More details likely this week coming out of the Shizuoka Hobby show. http://www.rc.futaba.co.jp/news/webdir/198/01.jpg New 18-channel dual power lead RX is a reality as well. Word is production starts early summer with deliver in the fall. Radio has a color...

I doubt you'll lose a month of flying Randy. They are pretty good at turning stuff around these days.

    FASST and FASSTest

Technology marches on. The addition of telemetry to the FASST protocol made the 2 no longer compatible. One other cool feature about using the R7008SB is you can truly split the plane and put channels 1-7 on 1 RX and 8-16 on a second separate RX (both R7008SB).

    FASST and FASSTest

Nope. Because you have to select either the Multi-FASST or one of the two FASSTest modes. You cannot have both a FASST and FASSTest RX linked to the same TX on the same model at the same time.

Sounds like you Geezers have this all wired!! But I agree, if it keeps acting up or not working like it should then a quick trip to Illinois should make it right!!

    FASST and FASSTest

DSSS refers to protocols used by other vendors. Futaba has two protocols FASST/FASSTest and S-FHSS/T-FHSS. FASSTest and T-FHSS are the telemetry capable variants of the two base protocols. The chart I liked to above shows the compatibility within the Futaba line. Of current radios the 18MZ and...

    FASST and FASSTest

FASSTest is FASST + telemetry. FASST and FASSTest are not compatible. The base protocol is the same but the addition of the telemetry data makes them incompatible. This chart shows what works with what: http://www.futaba-rc.com/receivers/fhss-s-fhss-compat.html
