Hey there everyone, hope you all have had a great weekend of flying in this beautiful surprising weather we have had all weekend long! On my journey of hunting for a field to call home in Illinois, I have ran across a few locally with in a hour drive of my home. Kankakee Valley Modelers, 20 miles from house, vary few people ever there, old timers accasionally, and kinda stuck to there ways. Great Lakes Eagles, in Mateno about 35 miles from the house, and then SACC, 57 miles from the house. I loved them all, Kankakee is kinda close quarters but a pretty laid back field. Mateno, it's in the middle of no where but it is one amazing spot and some very friendly guys!! Wide open area with no hassles. 2 tables to sit at, no run up stands or anything, but plenty to tie off to.
Now SACC, they have a nice paved runway in a park reserve. There was about 15 people out yesterday at 4:00 when I finally arrived. I got to whiteness some amazing flying and talked to some bad to the bone pilots! It's about a hour drive from the house. For a paved run way, it was very well worth the drive, especially if your looking for a club that will have members at any given time of the day, then this is definitely the club. I'm looking for a club to call home, and out of Mateno and SACC, i think I will do my normal everyday flying in Mateno, and may hit SACC on sundays on my day off and make a full day out of Sunday's there. Plenty of picknick tables to sit at, very fun atmosphere. I have some pictures and some video of SACC, and will post pictures of the other 2 soon.
