Leave the washer in. I usually try to match up a set of washers.

It depends on the plane, but usually a small adjustment makes a large difference. Start with 1/8" washers, fly it, then add more if necessary.

Once you get it how you want it, just leave the washers in place, no need to modify the plane unless it is 1" or more.

Say you need a little more up thrust and right thrust.... You would put just 1 washer behind the bottom left engine mounting lug.

Really good article by Peter Goldsmith on trimming... starts with CG and moves forward... it discusses the issue of determining and setting engine thrust.... Not only is Peter a really personable guy to get to know... few have his understanding, simplicity and clarity in basic instruction....

So for up thrust its 1 shim on the bottom of each post. to do right you add 1 shim on both left posts. So this way you have 1 shim on the bottom right 2 on bottom left, and 1 on the top left. This method prevents any load on the crank case that could occur, and works really well. You can get very close just make sure the shim are all the same size that u add.
