Covering Contest/Pilot 40% 122" Extra 330SC

The only thing with this scheme is I would probably have to use Monokote covering. As many of you are aware, I prefer Ultracote. Unfortunately however Ultracote offers no metallic covering as does Monokote.

I bet it is metallic pearls which require some serious work to get them to look that good. Wonder what kind of hours was put into that job, especially the engine rip outs on the engine cowl?

One thing is for sure, if someone could cover one like that it would a one of kind RC plane and would turn some heads. The problem would be getting quality covering that would match that look.

Ever hear of guy named Faye Stilley? Don't know if he is still alive or not but he could do that scheme and the one in my head with ease....
Try googling his name and see what "pops" up. Guy was GENOUS at MonoKote and Oracover.

I would have to agree with your observation. I am almost feeling a challenge coming on. I will admit, the Monocote Pearls I have used in the past were amazingly pretty to say the least. Credit to the covering, not my application. I am not too certain I would want to have the rip outs on the engine cowl. Not that I find anything wrong with it. Just that it would in my opinion, clash with the objective I am desiring with this covering job. I want to have the covering scheme to be the sole reason for turning heads.

No doubt the gent had a certain "chemistry" with his covering iron. A definite artistic skill I highly doubt I could reproduce.

There is still plenty of time to get your photos and ideas in everyone. I am honestly thinking it will be shortly after the New Year when I plan to order covering. I have selected a couple of the ones already submitted that I really like. Not that this in any way, shape or form disqualifies the rest submitted. Just those that have really caught my eye for one reason or another. I "knew" when I saw the scheme for the Jtec Pitts that "that" scheme was the one. Looking back, I almost feel I nearly bit off more than I wanted to chew. So this time, I am being just a tad bit more scrupulous.

Then of course there are the Ultrakote choices....And Ultrakote "DOES" offer Pearls. Hmmmm!!!!

I like the Charcoal that Ultracote makes. It would look really good on the one scheme that was submitted.

These along with white and red would look really good. So many choices.... But we're not done yet. Still looking at schemes. Come on everyone, get your entries in.

Those look much better than I suspected. I have some metallic covering and it looks nice, but one thing I know from messing with it some metallic covering in the past is that it has to be matched to the right colors or it simply looks bad (from my limited experience) and you have to have just the right amount of mix.

I did one plane in metallic and it came out rather good although in hindsight I realized I had too much metallic and not enough mix of other colors to break it up. It was not an acrobatic plane which did not help either. Had it been acrobatic I think it would have probably been passible, but then I am my own absolute worst critic.

Oh I absolutely agree. I covered a non acrobatic plane years ago. It was, hmm...let me think about this a sec. Oh yeah, I remember now. You all remember the Midwest Malibu trainer produced like 22 years ago? That was honestly my first bigger trainer. Covered it in all Monokote Metallic Teal and Metallic Gold. Was pretty but ugly at the same time. Sure glad the covering didn't change how it flew. Lol. Actually a really nice flying plane. After flying it a while, I got bored with it and redesigned it. Closed off the top where the wing saddle was. Built it into a real nice cockpit/cabin. Then mounted the wings on the bottom. My Malibu was then a sport flyer. Covering still was pretty but ugly. Lol
