Well I have open up a hornets nest trying to install a GP38 into a Funtana. First I had cut 30mm of the motor box and make a new firewall to get the engine to fit the cowl and fuselage. Then when I held the motor in place the propeller was in the dirt so made some new landing gear 2 and 1/4 inches taller. After all that mocked up everything again I no longer can get the tank to fit ahead of the wing tube, so that will have to be installed behind the CG now. Boy what did I start.

It is amazing how a project can snowball.

Put a hopper tank setup in it, one ahead of the tube, one behind.
I believe I know how a hopper tank works, but what advantage does the hopper tank have ahead of the wing tube? The engine Still needs to be suck up from the main fuel tank behind the wing tube.
Or am I missing something.

Finally got my Mustang on the road this past weekend and already time to put it back in the garage because as expected I found more stuff wrong once I drove it some. Pressure line for the power steering is leaking, broken rear transmission mount, and best of all when it trys to go into overdrive it hits neutral and stays there. Found some common problems with these AODE transmissions so I ordered some parts and hopefully it's the simple fix. Otherwise its order a rebuild kit and pull it out and I'm not sure I have the time to be trying to rebuild an automatic transmission right now. We will see.

I wouldn't waste time rebuilding it. I'd swap it out for a manual first. Or sell it as is and buy a 5.0 with manual.

It will keep some of the weight ahead of the tube which "should" help with balance.

I thought about it but for right now the Auto is staying. I'm leaning towards once I V8 swap the car for it to be more suited to the drag strip so the Auto will be the ticket for bracket racing, plus the AODE that is in it is the same one that came with the V8 cars so it will bolt right up to a 302-351 block with no modifications and can handle around 400 hp in stock form.

From your original post I thought you were worried about installing the tank behind the CG, two equal sized tanks mounted on each side of the CG solves this problem.
As far as sucking fuel there will not be any problem with the Walbro style carburetor. I have read a Walbro can suck gas vertically 3 feet however I have never tried this myself. This came from a reliable source
