Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

I like 'em "BIG"!
Sometimes life just gets in the way. Hey everyone... I took a little time off to get some fresh air. That didn't work. I ended up spending more time at work than doing anything else. And of course the Big Don Smith Mustang has sat in the corner...(many corners actually) for the last...what's it been? Almost a year? Geez... How harsh can I be? The Giant Scale Top Flite P-40 got glassed and painted and the Roto 85FSI installed. Runs like a finely jeweled watch. I just haven't had the time to take her out for a maiden flight. Hopefully in the spring. In the meantime, I found a minute to look at the Behemoth Stang. Funny how things happen for a reason. In the course of sitting around collecting dust...(literally sanding dust) I noticed the wings had been bumped a couple of times and in as much, a couple of the ribs were cracked. I decided I better get them fixed before they got broke completely off and got lost. Well, that is all it took. I got back on the big P-51 a few weeks ago. And actually have made a little progress. Wiring tubes installed in the left wing, gear rails installed and gear basically set in place. Servo (aileron and flap) attachment build is next. Then to duplicate everything on the right wing and sheet the bottom of the wing. After that? Sanding....lots and lots and lots..... of sanding. Shaping, sanding...filling, sanding...blocking, shaping, sanding....UGH! LOL. I am hoping to get to the glassing sometime next month. But until then.....here's a little catch up for all of you.

Don't mind the fat man holding the Behemoth wing. Something else I have been working on. Down 43 pounds and working on the last 25ish. LOL

I really thought I had some photos of the gear on the rails with the inner and outer doors layed out for alignment. Guess I will have to shoot a couple tomorrow. In the meantime, a few photos of the glassed and painted P-40.

:woohoo!: Welcome back brother!! We’re getting the band back together!
Thank you Mike. Always good to see you my friend. Yes, it seems we all need to get back on track huh? I can not promise I will be as interactive as what I was before. But I will try. I have a mission right now. That Behemoth Stang "WILL" be finished for a Summer maiden. I have a few more goodies coming GSN's way. I am expecting my 130" F82 in late March/early April. And the Ziroli P-38 (114") is sitting here looking at me. Got the gear for it... just need to decide which Mighty Dub engines it will be sporting. I bought a new 3w 70r2 thinking I would buy a second for it. A P-38 with twin 70cc inline twins would be so cool on that plane. I may still do it. We'll see. Other wise, my choice will be 3w 55cs's. Guess time will tell.

Hey, thanks... for the warm welcoming back.

Ah Ha! I found a couple of the gear. I also ordered up a couple of RCExl ignitions and sensors and converted the 3W 150ir2. Love that hot spark on those mighty dub engines. And a couple of other little goodies. I think 3W must like me. I got me a brand new snazzy shirt, swift new jacket and an awesome watch. All from the boys in Germany at 3W. (Gift for purchasing the new 70r2 inline twin.
