Back in the day the Byron F16 was pretty popular. You saw a lot of those and their Mig15. The power systems in early Byron's were marginal at best. Byron's differed from the others because they put the engine in front of the fan and used a big cheater hole to take in extra air. They were the first mass produced ducted fans. The Tom Cook Dynamax was better, and the BVM Viojet was outstanding for the time.
As far as an EDF system, something in the 105 to 120mm range on 12S would make more power than they had back in the day. If money was no object then I'd say a Bob Violet EVF system, but they are very, very expensive. Something like a Jetfan 105mm or 120mm should work fine.

I am still looking at this project as a maybe. If I do this, EDF would be my only choice..
