Built a red-neck A/c for the trailer today

roof units are 1k and portables are in the way/more expensive/less efficient..

Got a 100.00 5100BTU window unit. Built a 5" deep 1" thick insulation foam box.

Reducer going from 6"-4" hose vented through the floor..

total cost 145.00$$

We shall see how well it does this weekend at the event.

Thats an interesting idea lol. Looks sweet

That's like pro-red-neck! I like it! How's the performance? Does the foam box and duct affect the operation?

Not bad.. Keep in mind I haven't insulated the trailer yet. It's not going to make it a meat locker however it will do plenty well enough to lay a blow up mattress on the floor and sleep in comfort.

The grates release some hot air but it all stays in the cabinet the unit is recessed into and the air escapes up.

At first I just restricted the exhaust side with a piece of foam and the reducer and vent coming out of the floor.

That did not work at all. It actually ran so hot it kicked the compressor out.

We built the 5" deep foam box and hot glued it and tapped it together with hvac tape. Now it's pushing enough hot air out of my floor exhaust hose..

Ran 3hrs today in the shop and good so far!

Also I drilled a hole in the bottom of the ac frame for water exit. Gonna use a barb fitting and some 1/4" Id tubing to run out the floor. For now a drip pan works.
