Amazing amount of plans available. Also, I am trying to remember the site that has all those awesome warbird plans. Escapes me right now. I'll remember soon enough...till then I am sure scores of you guys can recall it. What is that site??? Ugh...View attachment 92643
Not the one I was thinking of. I believe it is Kit Cutters. However now that I think about it, not sure they offer anything small.Your thinking of Outerzone.co.uk
Okay Biplane fans, I need your assistance. As some of you know I'm looking for my next project and I'm really wanting to do a biplane.
I'm looking to either do a plan build, or draw my own plans. The issue with doing a plan build is most of the plans out there are fairly old, and don't lend themselves to plug in wings, and a removable top hatch very well. Those two things are a must for me since I just can't crawl around on the ground and assemble an airplane, and a one piece wing I have no way to haul to the field with my current setup. I have a small standard cab pickup and the wings ride in the cab with me.
My list of possibilities are one of the Pitts variants like the S1-S, S2-A, S1-11B or the model 12. The Hostetler S1-11b looks like it could be modified for plug in wings without too much trouble because of it's box style construction. There are a few others like the Culp Special, and the Pitts Samson that I really like as well. The Pitts Samson really intrigues me from a construction standpoint. It has widely spaced cabanes that would be awesome for having a nice top hatch, plus you could have a upper center wing section that stays on the airplane, plus it's just plain cool! The problem with the Samson is I can't find much info on it at all other than a few pictures. Is there a three view out there anywhere?
I'd like to power this airplane with a DA50 I have on hand, but the more I get into it the more I'm thinking DA70 or so. I'm just afraid an airplane light enough to fly well on a 50 would be smaller than I really want. I'd like to keep it smaller than 80", somewhere in the mid 70" range I think.
@acerc and @Bipeguy03 have already been a big help suggesting some different plans and I thank them both. I've looked at Pitts plans from Andy Sheber, Mike Smart, Pilot Models and a few others, But I think I'm going to end up drawing my own.
Now to the help I need part. Three view drawings of any of the airplanes I listed above or any other Pitts variants. Any with cross sections would be awesome. I've gotten a ton of info searching Google, but the more the merrier, Plus it would be nice to have some of that info here on the Bipe thread.
If anyone has any info on the Samson please post it, even just some specs would be great. That thing makes me drool.
