Solar panel pumping 5a into my batteries.. Set up to pull over 700w, plenty of power! Good news is, I'll never have to listen to Katy Perry ever again at a flying event.. Love the events, but why is the music always so bad!?! :)

All my hobby gear will be now run on 100% recycled solar energy!

This will come in very handy at my local fields where one has no power, and the other blows breakers every 3 minutes unless I charge at 1 amp!

Go green baby!

How is the solar energy recycled? :p
Don't you mean renewable?

Nice setup Josh!

When we renew something, technically isn't it recycled..?
I don't know the answer to this- what is the term that should be used. I will be putting decals on all my equipment showing off the green power! Santi Solar Solutions @ s8 Graphix, I like it! :)

Just giving you a hard time! Recycled to me means re-used, whearas renewable means it made in nature and you can use as much as you want. Either way, I want a system like this for my field!

Exactly- I collected the energy from the sun to charge my reserve batteries, then re-used it to charge my packs or power my sound system! I have no idea- we'll see what looks best on my cowl!

Since deep cycle batteries are so pricey I got two car batteries from our local pull-apart junkyard. The lady says the batteries that they harvest that keep a charge never last more than a day. I happened to walk out just as they pulled in 6 that day so I grabbed 2 for $20! They are around 40ah and can handle quite a bit of abuse! My solar regulator will cut off my power once the batter depletes to a set voltage and will cut off the solar panel once the batteries are fully charged. All in all I think this system will see some good use!

<nitpick mode=on>"Renewable energy" is a pet peeve of mine, because:
1) By definition, all energy is renewable, since energy can't be destroyed or created. It can only be transformed from one form to another, e.g. electricity to heat (electric space heater) or heat to motion (steam engine).
2) The sun is a giant nuclear reactor. It's "consumes" energy (or, to be correct, converts energy from nuclear forces to various kinds of radiation) and there's no way of "renewing" or putting energy back into the sun. Once it's burned out, it's burned out!

Renewable energy is just one of those made-up politically charged words that really means nothing. "Environmentally friendly energy" would be a much better term.

My most sincere apologies for nitpicking!

Nitpick away! We want the correct answer! I was under the assumption that because it is re-used it is then in turn recycled. But does something need to be destroyed first to constitute recycled?

I really do want the correct answer because I want to create decals for my equipment and would like to use the correct term!

There is a very good reason for using deep cycle batteries.. That is that the regular car starter batteries are designed to give high amps in short bursts but if you want them to last they cant be discharged more than maybe 20% of their stated capacity. If you pull much more than that out of them repeatedly then they will die very quickly.
20% of the capacity of a 40Ah lead acid represents something like one and a half charges of a 6s 3000mAh LiPo.

In that case all energy, including goal, oil and gas, is 're-cycled' because it all ultimately came from the Sun:D

I think the correct term for solar power is 'renewable'

Exactly- I have a deep cycle on the way, but for now I got the two car batteries to hold me over for the bears game! With the panel attached I should be able to charge a pack, then allow the panel to replenish. Once I get the deep cycle, it'll be a whole new ball game!
