The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

When I was ordering my wife a cast iron skillet for Valentine's Day, I could pay $10.00 for shipping or spend another $10.00 and get free shipping.

So I ordered me some of this...

Used it on my spinner and now...

Hey why not? Looks great. Even the scratches are gone. Did you happen to spin the spinner in say a drill and bear down with this 3M compound?

What a deal. I guess I need to get a wife. So I too can order her valentines day gifts online and then I can also get the offer you got BJ. Ummm....naaa, been down that road. I think I will just spend the 10 dollars and buy "ME" a valentines day present. LOL

Hey Rob,

I hear what you'really saying and I appreciate your help. I need all of the help I can get. . . LOL I'm just used to turning on a plane by the switch on the side of the fuse, that's all.

I hear ya David.... I hope I didn't mislead you. I also have a switch on the side of my plane to activate the onboards and such. I use (as you probably already remember) Smart Fly Pin and Flag fail safe switches. But referring to the ignition, it being plugged into my rx on its own channel. Once the Flag Pin is removed from the switch jack, my electronics become live and my ignition can be armed simply by flipping the switch on the tx. One lonely little Pin Flag on the side of the fuse does it all. Clean and safe.

I do have another question if you don't mind. Do you know what these are? I bought the plane with these inside. I am hoping one of them is a voltage regulator, but I am not sure. Let's see if I can load a picture from my phone.

I will look at what ya got...can't promise I can help but will try.
Well that didn't work. Let's try something else.View attachment 51257 View attachment 51258

That worked. The piece with MINI THOR on it is from 42% Products.

Thanks Buddy
The "Mini Thor" is nothing more than a simplified ignition cutoff switch. It has an internal voltage regulator that you can select between 5.0 volts and 6.0 volts. It makes it possible to illuminate an extra battery that is needed to run most ignition systems. Although probably "neat" when it was dreamt up in somebody's small little mind, but the same thing can be achieved with a Tec-Aero IBEC. But I myself am not much of a believer in the IBEC systems anyway. A nice little RCExcl Opto Kill ignition kill switch does the same thing. And for a whopping $11.00 to $14.00 bucks, it is a safe, robust and dependable way to illuminate the need for an extra ignition battery. On the RCExcl you will find four lead. One is the LED, One is connected to your ignition system. One is intended to go to your rx. and the fourth is your power source. (supplied battery voltage) I plug this lead into my rx....or since I use a SF board on my planes, it goes into one of the ports on my SF that goes to its own channel in the rx. Boom....done. No need for extra ignition battery. I've been using them on all my planes since day one of the Gasserized intervention happened. LOLforehead-slap-smiley-emoticon.gif I did hear that 42% Products had some serious issues with some of their products though David. I can not say this with factual proof as I have never used a single 42% Products item. However I have heard many a modeler has lost his pride and joy to the 42% products. You'd be better off to ask Kelly or Donnie or maybe even someone else as to their dependability. As for that other little red and black bugger....I can not tell you for sure. I vaguely remember seeing one once. I honestly have no clue what it is. Again, others may be more knowledgeable than I on that.

Guess I missed this David. I use SF pin and flag fail safe switches on the sides of my planes. It activates all on board electronics. When the pin flag is removed, my rx is powered up through the smart fly, which in turn allows the ignition to become active with a flip of a switch on my tx.

Hey Rob,

I sincerely appreciate your help. The 42% thing is as good as in the trash. I have an extra optical kill switch from Gerhard that I got with my 3 Dub so I will use that. I REALLY hope the red and black thingy is a voltage regulator or I am going to have to get one of those too.

I located this in the event you wanted to look at something.

Voltage regulator? Are you running low voltage on your servos or system? Will the rx. to your radio not handle the higher voltages? Not sure of your system. Does the optical kill you got from Gerhard not handle HV?

Did you sand it before you polished it? It's a time consuming process but done right it can come out looking like a mirror

Tonight I got started on a cold frame. It will cover half of one of my raised beds. Should give us a little jump start on the growing season. Might also extend the season this fall if we aren't burnt out on gardening by then.:p

I promise to get back to airplane stuff real soon.:way_to_go:
