    Oil debate

I get it at a small FBO (7B3), it is labeled "MOGAS". BTW, Rob Holland's wife is a flight instructor there, look up the flight school and see Jessica Holland. Look at the lower left side of their web page for the gas prices, $4.95/gallon for 93 octane, no alcohol. http://www.hamptonairfield.com/

    Oil debate

After 3 years of Stihl with no alcohol gas, I sent my 120 back to DA for an inspection. They said to keep doing what I have been doing.

    FLIR One for iPhone

I just got my FLIR One for the iPhone. This is going to be very useful for seeing how the baffles work, where the air is exiting, servo temps while flying and probably a bunch of things I have not thought of yet. It has a spot temp indicator to give you the actual temp (in C or F), and yes, you...

    HS-7954 alternatives

They (2x, 7955) had wicked aileron blowback on my 104 AJ Slick on 2S lipo, and 1x on the ailerons on my 91 EF Extra. I took them off and used them on the elevators. It was not even close, so that is when I tested them. Another local friend made his own test and got virtually the same results...

    HS-7954 alternatives

I would like to see that test data. I have tested about a dozen 7955's and none have pulled more than 300 oz-in even on 8.5V, and 280 oz-in is more typical. Before it is suggested that perhaps my testing method is flawed, this same methodology showed a Futaba BLS-157 at 495 oz-in, and Savox...

    Prop bolts....what's the consensus?

Yes, typically the first thread carries about 40% of the load and by the time you get to the 5th thread, it probably is not doing much.

    Prop bolts....what's the consensus?

Agreed, that is pretty much a good rule of thumb in aluminum. But it can be calculated, there are curves that give you the shear area of the threads per length of engagement. For example, a M5 (nut) is very close to a 10-32 in diameter, so lets use the 10-32 as an example. A 10-32 has about...
