    3D Splitting Cowls made easy

I am very happy with how mine is coming out. I have the pipes cut out and so nice to have just two holes instead of the long slot. I still need to open the cutout for the plug cap more but taking it slow to not open up more than needed. When I laser cut the tabs I make a couple more to make up...

Terry in looking at your ignition do you have any foam under there? I just finished up my split cowl and baffles and doing a quick dry fit using some of the hobby sponge foam my ignition hits the cowl.

    3D Splitting Cowls made easy

I had plenty of it on hand so that is what I used on my 91" Cowl, I was worried about that but it really was not an issue. I passed a quick 320 over the inside to get rid of any snags but worked wonderful. Parts just fell off after removing the tape.

PVA is just but one release agent for fiberglass. If you don't want to mess with spraying you can use paste wax release as well. http://www.fibreglast.com/category/Mold_Releases

    Desert Aircraft Owners

Just saw this thread and maybe a good place to ask a question for my new DA-70. I would like to cut off the Powerpole connector and solder a short servo extension to connect to my Tech Aero IBEC, does this void the DA ignition warranty? What have you guys done.

Getting a little closer. Today was the first time to get back on the plane in 2-weeks. going to make the plug cap cutout next then start the cowl split. I did layup my inlet baffles today as well using some carbon fiber that I have a bunch laying around from some wind tunnel models that we had...

To Vent, or Not To Vent...

I take a different approach based around exit air for cooling. I always use the slotted vents for exit air to ensure as close to 2-1/2-3 times the inlet air. I prefer doing this rather than cutting the crap out of the cowl to get it. If the tunnel is there take advantage of it.

Are the screws prone to loosen on the split cowl? What about the use of washers, o-rings or loctite, is this necessary?
