    Scale Plans built P-51

One last thing. I have to sand a lot because I'm simply not very good at getting things right the first time. I've tried every type of sandpaper on the planet. What I've found that works the best for me is the paper that they make to go on the square sanders for refinishing hardwood floors...

    Scale Plans built P-51

I cut the sheeting away from the rear spar and sanded (and sanded and sanded) wedges that would fit into the gap that I created. I used a steel straightedge and 5 clamps. Sighting along the edge, I made 1/2 inch wedges of declining or advancing thickness as necessary to bring the top edge of...

    Scale Plans built P-51

I measured both wing panels. I cut all the ribs at once, cutting left and right sides at the same time, from the same wood using the same template. So the ailerons were the same - the wing panels should've been also. But they weren't. 3-4 ribs right in the center of the trailing edge were as...

    Scale Plans built P-51

I started to post these 2 pictures and solicit input from you guys on how to address this issue. I know someone would've said, hire it built. I wouldn't be offended, because that's my first inclination, but I'm a retired school teacher. So, I'm stuck with what God gave me to work with...

This is the left outboard wing panel. Not straight. Not even close. In the middle of the trailing edge, its bowed at least 3/16ths. The aileron would act like a big speed brake with the leading edge sticking above the wing panel nearly tip to tip. So, what took me about 30 minutes, that is...

    Scale Plans built P-51

This is the right aileron. Perfectly straight. You can see the trailing edge lays flat on the work bench. BTW - The left aileron is just as straight.

Back to hingeing. I started in the back. Left elevator half. I like to use the fiber covered plastic hinges. I buy the small sheets (the blue ones) so that I can cut them to the size I want. Usually, about 1” x 1-1/8. Give or take a little, not too critical. Heck some of mine aren’t even...

    Scale Plans built P-51

My least favorite thing about plans building is hinging the control surfaces. It’s important on a plane this size to make sure everything is straight. Well that’s true for any plane, but the bigger they are the easier it is for a small misalignment to manifest itself exponentially. 1/4*...

    Scale Plans built P-51

Did some more work on the Mustang yesterday. I mentioned that wingswestrc sent me a sample of their paint. I shot it on the wing center section and it’s everything they said it was. So I decided to repaint the fuselage. Good news - bad news. I started out just to remove the grit from the...

Yes. They’re for sale on rcuniverse. George’s avatar is ”warbirdbuilder”. You’ll have to search for it because I don’t remember where he posted them. He calls them “Nosen-(not).

Hey, Roger: The printed plans that I used to build my Nosen P-51 cost $170. Providing these plans for free is truly appreciated, and I'm quite sure I'm speaking for everyone who benefited from your generosity. Thanks for sharing!!

    Scale Plans built P-51

Is there anyone here that has built and flown the plane from these plans? I have perused these plans and they look terrific. The parts on the plans that I built were "close". There was quite a bit of work on making the parts fit as they were drawn.

Very interested in what you find out! There's a Staples just down the mountain from me. If they can scale the plans and print them out for me, this project is about to take off!!
