The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Been a bit MIA lately. Busy with work and family and a 66 mustang. My 12 year old son has been wanting a 65-68 mustang or a 67-68 Camero. I was able to negotiate my 66 Mustang back from the guy I sold it to many years ago. It’s been sitting in a barn for 20+years. It’s pretty thrashed but going...

My tempered glass I got from my local glass guy that was supposed to be used for a shower. Tempered. Paid $20, but he was going to give it to me.

Repairing the landing gear plate in the EF 60” extra. Plenty of clamp porn for those that enjoy it....haha. First pic is to check to make sure all the parts fit up. Also used a flat table to use the canopy line to ensure the fuse is square. The other two pics are all about the “business” :attaboy:.

Windex (ammonia) does not activate Ultracote. Xylene does, however, I have not used this type of method with Ultracote. Instead, I use @BalsaDust ’s glass method and layout the ultracote on the glass and heat them together. Peel off glass, then apply to airframe.

When I want to place monocote over monocote for trim this is what I do. Works great! I first mark out the boundary of my trim piece (trim piece already cut out) using a fine point sharpy. Short lines all over - so I know where the trim piece goes. Then I take a small piece of paper towel soaked...

I use both. Like both. Monocote is a bit strange as when you heat it to shrink it almost gets more loose then as it cools tightens up. That has been my experience anyway. I use an iron at about 280 degreees to put it down. Trim solvent works well to seal edges, but don’t use it alone to place...

EF 60” Extra - Glued the pieces of F4 (Not counting the firewall) back together and traced out a pattern. Going to use some 1/16” balsa for additional reinforcement and help tie it back into the fuse.

Started the next project. Repairing the EF 60” extra. Flying in high winds for just a little bit too long and the battery gave up and couldn’t get it back to land it. Blew out the landing gear plate. EF has a wood kit for the motor box for about $22 and had most of the pieces I needed. Just some...

Both. I am starting with Autocad files that I am redrawing with changes I am making to have them laser cut. They could also be exported to a pdf file for hand cutting. I will first have a test run to ensure the cuts and fit are what I want. Then I will probably have several short kits cut to...

Damn, that is light! Notice no LG on yours. I could strip that off and save 2 oz. No kidding a Hacker 2o2o at 18oz would rip! Have some more thinking to do on the next one. Looks like yours has a much thinner airfoil than the mojo also. Must fly quite a bit faster.

Thanks guys! I have quite a bit of work to do on the cut files, but when I get them sorted out will share them. It is definitely a fun slow flier. Hopefully will get her maidened this weekend.

Mojo 25 is ready for maiden. Came in a bit porky at 30.2 oz. Could shave off a couple going to a 1300mAh batt vs. 2200. Landing gear wire is heavy at 1/8” also. Next one will be lighter. Could probably get away with a park 480 motor vs. the 3536 SK3. That would shave another ounce. Good enough...
