Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

I think I looked at every Champ photo on Airliners.Net and finally decided to paint the interior light gray, I found several examples of this. Started by covering the headliner behind the rear windows with a piece of SeeTemp to finish it off, then sanded and dusted a couple of coats of...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

I started at 5% then increased to 7% since the calculated CG was behind my measurement, They tell you between 5 and 15 is normal. If you enter zero it puts the cg on the neutral point, if you set it to 15 it puts the CG at 25% of the cord.

Center the piece on the mill table and used the bolt circle function on the DRO to lay out the 32 mm bolt circle. I drilled all the holes with a center drill first than went back around and drilled the through holes. Fits perfectly.

First real project where I appreciate the power crossfeed, mirror finish on the fine feed rate. 0007"/ rev. The other thing I appreciate is McMaster Carr, ordered this 2 1/2" x 1/2" brass disc yesterday afternoon, on my porch this morning. This is replacing the prop washer supplied with the...

No, it has a the Roto 85 FS. At 40 pounds it has a cubic loading of 7.5, not far from a trainer. The wing is rather large, 2800 sq. in.

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

I used https://rcplanes.online/cg_calc.htm to calculated the safety margin, it came out at 7%. The wing is 20", so 6 5/8" puts the CG at 33%. According to the calculator the neutral point is at 8" or 40% of the cord. I believe I will make a heavy prop washer out of brass. this could add 1/2...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Rather than make the Vanessa balancer I decided to cut two 1/8" plywood plates that fit onto the spars, drilled a series of holes and use a 1/8" piece of music wire as the pivot. The plans show the balance point at 5 7/8" behind the leading edge, I getting 6 5/8" using a 1 pound weight just...

I did order a new Taranis X9D+ SE this morning along with 4 receivers so the ACCESS receivers will be going in the plane. Will use a Archer R8 Pro with a M+ redundant receiver for receiver 1 and a Archer R4 receiver 2. Both receivers are connected to the RB10 Redundancy Bus. Once registered...

Made new straps for the flying wires this morning. The tabs on the full scale are welded to the fuselage lower longeron and rudder post, these stick out of the fabric. I'm doing the same so these need completed before the fabric is applied. The ones that were installed were drilled for 4-40...

I was talking about the main elevator cables, not the trim tab. The trim tab servo is on a spring loaded slider to keep the cables engaged in the pulley and tight as the elevator moves up and down No 7th annual, started in 2015, the fun fly is 6/19/21.

Snoop, Do you remember asking about changing the cables? Your question raised some thought and I went ahead and ordered some more cable, 60# test SS coated cable , 100' for about $15.00. I am going to replace the elevator cables with double crimp the connections. The rudder cables are easy to...
