    Over-Thick Control Surfaces

None that I'm aware of. Of course in RC, we are trying to get aileron in the propwash for 3D, but not so much on the big boys!

From the beginning. How did you start flying RC?

I was fortunate to grow up in an aviation-oriented family. Even my Granddad & Grandmother were private pilots and they were born in 1903 and 1906. Did a bunch of control line through my formative years and got my first RC in the '60's....a Testor Skyhawk....Cox .049 powered rocketship...

Maybe Yakman meant..."Advanced builder using simple methods" :)

Bug Alert Full Scale threads not showing in new/recent post

Not sure if this is working properly? I posted a new thread and have replied on another there, but don't see it show up in the new/recent posts.

    3D Viper-ST 100-120cc scratch build......it continues!

I guess there's not much strength to gain (or needed?) if you went full depth....all the way to the other skin?

    Scale 50% Dalotel 165

Possibly....although the main reason I bought the stuff was to repair canisters or pipes. I wouldn't think heat would get to 700+, but certainly there is vibration. I'd test the crap out of it on something before I'd trust it for landing gear though!

    Anatomy of a Pylon Hit

Mike Goulian posted these shots on Facebook. They were taken in 2009 during a Red Bull event. Pretty nice sequential shots!

    Over-Thick Control Surfaces

Yep...they're fairly common these days....I just didn't have any shots that showed it like the SU-31 above. Oh....and other interesting thing that you can see on the 3-view you posted, is the reverse taper of the ailerons! They get larger in chord toward the tip....(not counting the...

    Scale JTEC 1/3 Scale Taylorcraft

Looking very nice :) Have you considered something like this Falcon Civilian prop? It would look fantastic on that Taylorcraft :yesss:

    Scale 50% Dalotel 165

Roger....I hope you have better success with this than I did. The stuff I tried was Durafix. It seemed to work and flow as advertised when I welded a canister stinger back on. Seemed strong when I tried to break it off by hand.....but the first flight it fell off. Haven't fiddled with the...

    Over-Thick Control Surfaces

If it is noticeable, I would think it may be a bit more responsive. I don't think it would do anything regarding adverse yaw though. I think the recessed hinge, referred to as the "SS" style earlier in this thread would be more responsive than anything in a scale form. You can see this on the...

    3D CAP 232-ST design / build / prototype

Hah! :applause:.....but you are absolutely correct Steve. Hard to see the real plane when you look at a Carden, Dalton, etc. Please don't anyone misinterpret me as bad-mouthing them. They are excellent designs and fly very well....but have been tweeked to the Nth degree as far as the 10%...

    Over-Thick Control Surfaces

That design is referred to as Frise-type ailerons. A bit from Wikkipedia; Frise ailerons Engineer Leslie George Frise (1897–1979) of the Bristol Aeroplane Company developed an aileron shape that is pivoted at about its 25 to 30% chord line and near its bottom surface [1], in order to decrease...

    Da100L 3blade setup

yeah....me too. Same failure. I think Robotech's were 28x12 on a piped DA150, as were mine. I've never had any issues with the 26x10 on DA120's. Good news is Biela replaced them for me, even though I bought them used but undrilled.
