Extreme Flight 60" Laser Build Thread

I started installing the stab and found the first problem with fit. It is not major but you need to do some relieving or your elevator throw will be limited. Use the tape method to assist you with the cutting and use an X-acto saw and without using a lot of pressure start cutting. Do not try...

Extreme Flight 60" Laser Build Thread

Last couple of days have been filled busy, hectic and stressful so have not been progressing like I had planned and to make it worse My 4315-480 that I sent in for Ken to go over and replace the bearings seems to be lost on the return trip back to me. I am going to have an ugly phone call...

I am going to have to file a complaint Monday. I went to my local PO and they were useless. Basically all they have is the same web based track search that we use.

A little setback for me as it looks like the USPS has lost my motor from Ken. I am so frustrated.

How many years have you been in the hobby?

I actually started flying RC in 1971 but had a long period where I sold everything and went full size buying a 200hp Piper Arrow then around 1,100 hrs went to rotor in the National Guard. No more full size and back in RC now 3 years. The hobby has never been better than now.

This was a must have for me either way, I saw Leo fly in Cleveland some years back but never wanted the 48". I am definitively getting another 60" Edge but I will wait till this is up and flying.

Thats okay for extensions that are not removed but this was at the connection for removing the wings. Instead of plugging in and removing aileron right at the receiver I had a 3" extension connected to the received to make this easier, soldering not an option.

I didn't have time tonight to work on the plane but my graphics came in tonight to give it some Leo personality. Eric did a great job at B&E from just some photo's I sent of Leo's plane.

    Which 60" to buy!?!?

I voted for the 60" Edge 540 even though I just bought a new 60" Laser, why.................the Edge has stood the test and is simply the best flying out there with no bad habits. The Laser however looks awesome and might take it down. Kit quality for sure has raised the bar just to early to tell.

I hate loose pieces so I like to attach the plastic spacer for the SFG's. These give you clearance for your ailerons. I like to use a small bead of Welders Adhesive around the perimeter just outside of the screw holes. Screw it sown with the new handle knurled screws, wipe down any excess...

If you do not seal your gaps there is no time like the present and make this a part of every build. I do this a little different than some and I not only find it easier it is so cheep. In the past I have used Blenderm tape, Monocote and Ultracoat but I am telling you clear packing tape is the...

Dry fitting the aileron to the wing I am looking to see that all hinge slots are cut right to accept the hinge on both surfaces. Both wings on the Laser were perfectly cut and required no opening of the hinge slots. I like to bend over the hinges to find the half way point. This also helps...

Put the gear on last night, no big deal same as usual. One thing I like to do that I have been doing with great results with regards to not having a wheel fall off is to locate and relieve a slot for the grub screw to be recessed into. All you have to do is slide on the wheel and lock collar...

Still not back home yet to get started on my Laser but I have been talking with Eric at B&E and I sent him some art work that he matched nicely. I really want this to look like Leo's Laser so I am replacing the Extreme Flight decals which by the way are matched nicely to Leo's Bud Light...
