    I feel kind embarrased

I'm a hack who can't really fly and who has small silly planes and I haven't been banned yet! :)

    Lipos from different vendors

ValueHobby has a line of fairly inexpensive LiPos, but I haven't tried them, so I have no idea of the quality.

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

Well, you know Dennis too, don't you? He's a bit of (OK, GROSS understatement here) an ePower geek. :) But actually, we've been thinking of something similar at one of my fields. There we have a bunch of marine lead batteries powered by solar cells. Most of the time that works fine, but...

    Pilot Yak 19% (53")

As some of you know, I recently got one of these beauties and I'm currently working on the build. It's going really well so far and the quality of the airframe seems excellent. I will post a more thorough build thread/review soon. Here she is on my workbench:

Yippee! Charging The Lithium Polymer Beast

Dennis is a forum buddy of mine. He flies giant scale cubs and that kind of stuff and has a lot of experience with very large (up to 5kW) power systems. I may drop him a note and ask if he's interested in sharing some of his knowledge with us. He's a retired high-voltage switching expert, so he...

Fly Low In "Middle East" --Joe flies for the Prince of Dubai"

Man, Joe has some guts! I assume you had one plane and no room for error, really. And Joe flies the snot out of it on the first test flight. Man, I wish I had his guts and skills!

    The 3DRCForums -Discuss Anything Thread-

I reversed the throttle channel on one of those 40"-something A-10 Warthog foam models. I'm very, very lucky it was an EDF model, but seeing it shoot across the room gave me a lot of respect for what damage a model airplane can do. And it took a month before my wife allowed a plane in the house...

    3DHobbyShop 51" AJ Slick

Yeah, I had to marry an attractive woman to compensate for that. Luckily the kids seems to have gotten their looks from her. :) Not sure how this relates to the Slick, so my apologies!

Separate capacitors on receiver? To use or not to use?

Well, yes, it does. Sort of. But only for a very short time. As Jim says, a capacitor is fine for smoothing out spikes on the supply voltage. So if you have a sudden high amp draw of a few tens of milliseconds causing the BEC voltage to sag, the capacitor will help keep the voltage up. But you...

Separate capacitors on receiver? To use or not to use?

...also this assumes that a brownout happens right above the current the BEC is rated for. That's probably not true, since they build a little bit of margin into the system. But again, it will at least get you a rough idea of what would happen.

Separate capacitors on receiver? To use or not to use?

Ah! An opportunityto geek out! Well, it's actually pretty easy to settle this debate with a little bit of math. A brownout is typically caused by a spike in current that's higher than what the BEC can handle. The BECs we use for a small to medium sized plane is typically rated around 5A, so...
