The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Yes, that is also why I did not order mine from them. If you had let me know you needed some, I would have been happy to send you a couple. I have a stash of numerous sizes.

Do you know if that is Oracover or Ultracote? Because I can get you the right color. I have a chart sent to me by the president of Ultracote. He sent me the complete file that shows the cross reference from Ora to Ultra.

The cowl is very ready for paint. It looks good enough to be proud of it. I mounted it up to the fuse to start drawing out the pattern. First stencil cut. This is not going to be any fun at all. I am afraid to use tape to outline the break between colors. Do any of you have suggestions?

Right? Thanks by the way. We'll see how the next phase goes. I can only surmise this one morsel of info...or tidbit of knowledge....If I screw this up, I am going to go play with razor blades on the I-5!

Ah yeah! But even taking a little time is better than making no progress at all. Right?

    I want another bipe!

Odd thing here. Many years ago...after I had been in this hobby a couple of years I started acquiring more aircraft than my garage could store. A second hand rc airplane gent here had some really cool stuff I just "HAD" to have. Besides my Nosen Mustang, I had an Ohio RC Giles 202 and 300. I...

A little progress today after work. First, the paint from Wingswest arrived today. Goofy danged mail carrier "STUFFED" the package inside my mail box. Surprised it even fit. I got it out, but it was interesting to say the least. I also sanded the last of my touch ups on the cowl. Yes, I think...

Indeed, a very big change. As for being ok with me, I can be quite anal at times. We'll see on that one. Well....um, ah...ok. Why not? It's not like I need another 3w powered round cowled plane right? NOT. LOL....Thanks though. Hee hee That is very interesting. I have never done that little...

Not at all confusing. I would like to do the silver in paint. I don't know if I can find a matching pin stripe the same color as the cut covering pin stripe on the rest of the fuse. I will follow your procedure as I feel it makes the most sense. Thank you for your suggestion.

Before heading out to work this morning, I paused momentarily to peek at the Pitts cowl. Lookin' pretty good. The one spot I mentioned last night must have been a reflection. As it is now not there. The other on the bottom is definitely a flaw in the cowl. Somehow I missed it. But easily taken...

I guess I need to start figuring out how to mask off the different sectors for the paint scheme. According to the full scale "Miss Maggie", It looks like I need to lay down the white first, then the Pearl Purple and finally the Flame Red. Ugh, Not looking forward to this. LOL Anyone have some...

Another warm bath and Alcohol rub down, the cowl is ready for some primer. Before doing so, I brought my thermostat up to 70 degrees. I usually keep it around 60 but figured if I let the cowl and the primer sit in a warmer environment, perhaps it might aid in any attempts to get a better...

Ok, so where were we before I had melt down number 2? Oh yeah, working on the Pitts cowl paint. Took some time this evening to knock off all the spot putty and get her whipped into shape. I started with 220 "Wetordry". I sanded dry. Then went to 400 grit "Wetordry" and did this one under warm...

Oh I know I'll get it. I don't ever give up. I may get pissy but I don't ever let anything get the best of me. By the way, I "DID" go flying. Lol The odd thing to me is, truthfully....I've painted a butt load of cowls. Some repaints, some brand new. All of them have needed a little light...

Well isn't this funny/odd. Just came up to update my progress. I was so exasperated I decided to go out and put a couple of laps on the Sukhoi. On the way home I stopped by to pick up some spot/glazing putty. Pin holes? Ha! Ok, yeah.....I don't think so. Maybe a little over kill and maybe a...

Aaaaaand "THIS" is why I hate to paint. I know enough to stay away from it. But noooooo.....I just gotta try it. I know also enough that the final paint is totally dependent upon the prep work. Apparently I missed something. I SHOLD HAVE GONE FLYING. UGH!!!! The only damn part of the cowl...

And awaaaaay we go. With the cowl sanded first with 220 to knock off the worst ridges and high spots, I then sanded it with 400 grit. Gave it a nice warm soapy bath with dishsoap. Rinsed really well, then another drying bath with 90% alcohol. Wiped down and ready for primer. Lets make...

Scale 25% Krier Kraft build, a tribute to grampa.

I remember the Super Skybolt from years ago. Nice flying plane. Your gramps definitely passed on his talent. The Krier Is looking amazing. Your pants process reminds me I need to get busy on mine for the Pitts. I have some mounts like the ones you are using. Now and then I go through my pieces...

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

The dummy radial looks real nice. Very authentic looking. At first glance, I wondered if the lower cylinder would restrict air flow. After looking closer, (enlarged photo) it is quite clear you have plenty of area around the sides of the cylinder. The air flow should wrap around good. I think it...
