    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

Flew the Edge again today. Managed 7 flights before my friends left the field. Since I don't like to operate big gassers without someone else on hand in case of an injury I packed it up and came home. The engine is settling down. Its still a little burbly in the mid range, and it did quit on...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

It is a sexy airframe! Best looking plane I've ever owned (next to my old sebart SU 29!) I spent a few hours yesterday going over and tightening everything. New tailwheel, blocked the bottom hole in the cowl save for a tiny slit so I can see the needles on the carb, intalled my venom cyl head...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

Despite some very gusty conditions we managed to maiden the Edge today! A bunch of flying buddies decended on Chatfield. It was great seeing so many familiar faces! Getting the BE 124 running was a bit of a saga. I had already made sure the carb was primed with fuel before I even left for...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

To get my CG at the recommended starting point I ended up moving the flight batteries as far forward as possible, installed an 8oz. White rose prop washer, and filled the tank just to get close to the "6-1/6" inches from the LE. With no nose weight and the recommended battery placement it was...

I was wondering if you were going one-piece! It's a big wing to transport! One of the reasons I let mine go...

Sport Idiot Boy Builds an Old School World Engines Robin Hood 99 Kit

Love the build thread. Brings back memories. I always liked this plane! I was given a 99" Robin hood with a US engines 38cc magneto with Acerc servos. It was creme with maroon stripes on the wing tips and down the fuselage I ended up downsizing it before I could fly it.

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

My order from www.Callie-graphics.com came in. Everything is perfect except I gave her the wrong dimensions on the G-SHOCK, and my butterfingers dropped the red part of the flag on the port side. Landed sticky side down in a pile of 3" deep Mahogany dust.... One of the hazards of having a...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

Finishing touches include baffling the engine and opening up the air inlets. I used dollar store foam board for the bottom baffle, and some EPP packing foam for the top baffle. It needed some flex to get the mufflers through their holes. This took much longer than I thought! I went through...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

Pics of some bench flying I did the 2nd day I had it. This thing is huge! Almost 9' long spinner to tail. I programmed all the servos through the SF EQ10. It went faster than I thought it would. I have over 10" of throw on the ailerons! That equates to about 40 degrees full-bang. Plenty...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

Did I mention the airframe came with a fully assembled fuel tank? Well, it did! I have heard of some leaks from other AP owners, so I did a pressure test using my fuel pump and closing the vent line with a full tank. So far, no leaks. I decided to use my old Smart-Fly EQ10 with a pin...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

Installing the servos and engine was straight forward. There were templates for several standard engines. I did end up having to open up the servo holes in the stabs for the mega-torque 7980s. I used a dremel tool and Roto-zip bit. It was tricky, but I manages not to make too big a mess...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

The landing gear and tailwheel went together without any fuss, with the exception of the main axles, which I replaced with DuBro. I added some plywood backers in the pants for spacing and to give the pant mounts some extra strength. I decided to go with a full HV setup and high torque servos...

    Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3 assembly

I thought I would share my experience building my new Aeroplus 111" Edge 540 V3. To begin, www.milehighrc.com is graciously sponsoring this endeavor. They are now the sole US distributor of Aeroplus airframes. Mike needed a local Team pilot to help spread the word and make some flight videos...
