The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

After doing the research, and considering that I would have to most likely buy new packs, the 12s, at least for me was a no brainier. YMMV

The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

I look at it as battery's are consumables, and the motor and ESC cost no more run 3s or 6s or 12 in this case (10 bucks difference). Also, If a person was just stepping up to a bigger plane from a 3s/4s system to a 6s system, the cost of the 6s packs are already going to take place, so that's a...

The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

This electric thing is a huge balancing act. First off lets establish that as voltage decreases, apmerage increases (it's how all electrical systems work). Also the higher the current draw, the more heat. Heat is energy, energy that's wasted in the form of radiation and not thrust, thus an...

The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

Ok I just pulled the tape, and measured the deflection of the surfaces. The elevator has 55 degrees up and almost 60 down, the Rudder has 47 degrees both ways until it just touches the elevator. Well its not as much as I have seen in the EF MSX, but it has decent throws, more then what the...

The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

I installed the tail section control surfaces. Again I taped the hinge point to protect it from the epoxy. I taped it in such a way that I can remove it easily. See the images for how I did it. I tape one half of the joint at a time. [/url] Horizontal Stabilzer Hinging of the Tail...

The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

I used the tape so when the epoxy dried, I can pull the tape and have a nice clean glue line. As to the thrust line, yep there is, they have it built in.

    Discussion Choosing an air frame----frustrations!

That was some pretty darn nice flying. If I can ever get that good, I will of achieved my goal in RC. Anyways that plane is very similar to my new plane. Mine is slightly bigger, and I am on 12S. I hope mine flys that well. I mean, how nice did that plane float. In Harrier, he could of cut the...

The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

Ok its all set up and the tape I used to mask off the area has been removed. The Stab is perfect and not I ready to hinge the Elevator and Rudder. Here is that video on how I made sure the Horizontal Stabilizer was in the perfect position using Spider Wire. http://youtu.be/z6MAFA2Evs0...

The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

Well my horizontal stab is laid up, and in 30 mins I will be able to breath a little easier. I just don't trust thin CA to install a stab, so I use 30 min epoxy. The opening on horizontal stab hole is lined with hardwood, it just doesn't have the same capillary action as balsa. Thus the use of...

So my el cheapo landing gear looks cool? That just made my day... I just like custom stuff, and if its functional all the better.

I hogged out holes where it meets the bottom of fuse too. That 1/2 drill bit eats a lot of material.

    Twisted Hobbys 32" Crack Laser!

The only place I have seen it at a sote is Hobby People and it goes for $11.99 when on sale its $9.99. DW foamies has it, but the cheapest place I have seen it is from a place called Lazertoyz, it's $8.99 (shipping is $4.95) So I just pay the $11 at the hobby shop.

I hadn't thought of that. I thin Teflon clear dot might do the trick. I'll fly it and see how it does.

The EXTRA 300 EXT Build Thread

Well I didn't get to start hinging yet. I did thin CA the entire plane, Ironed all of the seams, and prepared the hinges. As I stated before, this is an Extreme Budget kit, so it comes with aluminum landing gear. Just the aluminum legs were a tad it heavy. At 142 grams as compared to e carbon...

Whitney, also there is one in Summerlin called MaraCelli I butchered that name. But it's pronounced MARA SELL EEE, I think.:)

    Twisted Hobbys 32" Crack Laser!

FoamTac is at hobby people. The people working there didn't know they carried it. I had to point it out to them. It makes the best glue hinges I have ever seen. The trick it to use very little, coat both surfaces, press them together ten pull them apart and you will see spider web action...

    Twisted Hobbys 32" Crack Laser!

I flew 6 packs today on the Laser, and a fellow begged to buy my Extra Slick he offered me $100 and I actually passed. I just love it too much, it's kind of like old faithful and that fat fuse NE's so well. As to the Welders, I am so glad I ran into FoamTac. No Yellowing, no brittleness, and...

    Twisted Hobbys 32" Crack Laser!

I was able to buy a Crack Laser today at the airfield. A buddy of mine brought it to the field today, and made a slip of the tongue. He said, "Tom you should buy my crack Laser" I know inside I really, really wanted one, but I couldn't let him know that. He is going on and one how great it is...
